03 - The Fun is Just Beginning

[Susan! Speaking Greek and looking very upset.]

What in the world is going on?! Everyone I know is either speaking... What is this, is this Greek? Or some gibberish language that I--it's like nothing I've ever heard and...! I used to speak Ukrainian. I used to be fluent in Ukranian. Now I can't remember a word of it at all.

[Considers for a moment, then says,] I think it's the equivalent of a question mark in... this. [She gestures at her mouth and then taps the weird mark.] If that's even what you're asking.

[nods, speaking Japanese] My languages have normal question marks. Usually. Well, hm... [doodles a stick figure that vaguely looks like a pirate, then points at her, then makes the - more or less - universal 'okay' sign]

[Blank look for the pirate stick figure.] You're either saying pirates are nice or I would look good as a pirate, as far as I can tell, neither of which is particularly helpful.

Yes! Pirates! [Gives him an exasperated look.] What, our ability to communicate was stolen by space pirates?

[he sighs and tries again, pointing to the pirate, then to her, then making the okay sign again]

[She gets it this time. And stares.] Are you okay. Did you really need to make it that complicated?

[he has no idea what she said but he assumes she got it and nods]

[She sighs and nods, then draws a group of stick figures with speech bubbles full of different shapes, with a question mark beside it.]

[tilts his head, then nods and draws two short stick figures and draws them with >:) faces, then a question mark]

I don't... [Frowns thoughtfully at the stick people.] Ugh, I'm terrible at this.

[She taps the picture of the two stick-figure people, then taps the group of confused stick figures and draws a question mark.]

[She can't help it. She laughs a little bit.]

[Still smiling a bit, and then something occurs to her and a look of enlightenment spreads across her face.] I wonder if... [She hesitates, then reaches up and lays her fingers on his temples and gives him a questioning look.] I don't know that it would work, but....

[looks a bit surprised, then after a moment he figures best to just roll with it and puts his own fingers to her temples] You're sure? [eyebrow raise]

[She takes a deep breath and nods, gulping. And then closes her eyes and tries very hard not to think about her fiance.]

[and Contact is go! He wiggles around her mind a bit, trying to press in enough to communicate a bit]

How's this? Better or worse than pirate pictures?

[She smiles a little, though she's clearly uncomfortable with the whole another-person-in-her-head thing.] A... a little better.

[presses in just a little deeper] Erm, right, doors. If you want to block something, just picture doors, eh? Doors.

[She makes a tiny, uncomfortable noise, and the thing about doors doesn't register until he's probably glimpsed a limp hand dangling out of an ornate old tub with blood floating in the water and running down the sides. And then she's slammed that door shut with enough force to probably be painful for both of them.]

[he was momentarily stuck staring at that memory before he was - thankfully - shut out. It also knocked him a bit loose, though he tries to hold some contact] ...I'm sorry.
