[Misaki, in sweats with a massive punching bag. She has gloves on and is whaling away at it, and from the coating of sweat shining on her face it looks like she's been at it a while. Her hair is damp and starting to come loose from her ponytail. She strikes the bag once more, setting it swinging, and then pauses to shed the gloves and stretch a bit. She takes a drink from the water bottle near the bag's base, tugs the gloves back on and resumes.]

[So. Yup. They're both fine. :| ]

My father's petition went through, yes. And I testified that there is a Contractor in the gang who can make normal human take on the characteristics of a someone under a Contract. So. They let me go. With provisions, of course. [Attempts to bind her hair back with the remnants of the tie]

[He nods, then disappears from the Plane, returning a few minutes later with a pack of unused hair ties.]

They were in Gwen's desk... doubt she'll ever have use for them now.

[Takes the package and sort of... stares at it.]

They're hair ties. To replace your old one.

[Blinks, startled out of whatever mental loop she'd fallen into. Have a little bit of a smile, Ianto.] I know what they are.

[She tears open the package and yanks her hair back. Gloves on. Going after the bag again with renewed savagery, if not renewed energy.]

Thought you might... you just didn't look as though you did.

[Slams away for another minute before she throws a punch and almost misses the bag. She's looking a bit exhausted at this point.] ...dammit.

[He watches, not saying anything until she misses.] ...need anything else?

[Scrubbing at her forehead] No, thank you.

[She peels off one of the gloves and takes a swig from her water bottle, blinks, rubs her eyes and then leaves them closed, leaning against the frame that holds the bag.]

You sure you're alright?

In all honesty? I've no idea.

Anything I can do?

[If she were the openly cynical type, she'd say something snarky right about now.]

Nothing I can think of.

[She chews the edge of her lip, looking like she wants to say something else.]

[Ianto doesn't say anything, giving her the chance to talk if she wants.]

[Turns to focus on the bag again, fiddling with some imaginary adjustment as she speaks. BECAUSE AWKWARD.]

I... [Pause. Steadying breath.] Thank you. I owe you. A great deal. [She turns and bows, hands at her sides.]

[YES. AWKWARD. And loosening his tie because of it. And skirting the issue at hand.]

It's fine. They're just hair ties.

[She almost laughs. It's very close! But she manages to straighten up. She decides to examine a spot somewhere above his left shoulder.] You know what I mean.

[Looking down.] I know.

[AWKWARD CONVERSATION IS AWKWARD. She stands there, hands clasped behind her back for a moment.] It... you seemed...

You've been in situations like that before? Dealing with... non-humans, like that?

Has Jack told you what we do? [He may or may not be avoiding the question.]

More or less. I've guessed at what he hasn't said. [May or may not have noticed that.]

Then you already know we deal with non-humans more often than humans.

Yes. But that wasn't my question.

You asked if I'd dealt with non-humans before.

I asked if you'd been in a situation like mine before. You... were about the only person who didn't assume I was completely changed.
