[Aniki doesn’t so much appear as, well, fall from the Astral sky in a cascade of water. She hits the ground with a grunt and starts coughing; she’s soaked through and tied up from top to toe, a bit bruised, and definitely not happy with the situation.]

[Headtilt, raised eyebrows again. You're going to make them fly off her face, Doctor.] I'll be smarter than a Carthaki mage, I keep learning new things at this rate.

[that just makes him look even happier] Oh, good. Knowledge is something everyone should have. 'Does what it says on the tin' means 'exactly how it sounds'. Lovely little phrase.

What was in the tin, and what'd it say on it?

I don't know. Never met the original tin in question. I like to imagine it was a tin of tea leaves. And it probably said 'tea leaves' on it. Maybe someone carrying it got into some trouble, had to be searched and they asked him, "what's in the tin?" and he said, "tea leaves, 'course!" so they search the tin and there you go! And he's cocky enough to say, "Does exactly what it says on the tin."

[Grinning now.] But tea leaves wouldn't do diddly. They'd sit there, being leaves.

Well, then! See? You knew tea leaves wouldn't do anything and they didn't! The tin didn't lie.

[She laughs.] And so it didn't.

Now you know! And knowing is half the battle.

[Gives him a funny look.] You sound like a page reciting someone else's creed, laddie.

I like to quote different resources.

Not a 'resource' I'd know, I'm guessing.

Probably not, no. Those sorts of things don't always carry over across planets and universes.
