[It's a Firo! Looking positively blown away with delight at something. He's dressed up in a dark suit and overcoat with a brand new black hat, which he is currently hanging onto, and his hair is sticking up in about ten different directions.]

They finished it! And it's--damn, it's keen. Can see forever from up there! The whole city's gone wild. It's... It's... something!

[ Once he's quiet, she looks up. His arm doesn't cover his whole blush, but she decides not to tease. ] Ah, I'm going to have to dry off. If I pop back up all wet on poor Koren, he's going to lose it.

[Grins at her from under his arm.] Dodge out on school?

[ She shakes her head. ] I'm the teacher this time around. I'm trying to teach Koren to use magic the right way.

Right way?

Koren and I studied together, back when I couldn't use magic at all. He couldn't either... Until he gave a piece of his soul to the Dragon Emperor.

His... You couldn't use magic? And he sold his soul? Who's the Dragon Emperor?

I couldn't until recently. Everyone thought I was inept, including me. Koren studied with me, and he was just so frustrated. I stopped caring when I couldn't do magic, I blew it off because I just felt like it was hopeless. Koren tried and tried, and when he couldn't handle it anymore, he left Altena. He met the Dragon Emperor while he was gone, and gave him a piece of his soul in exchange for power. [ Angela sighs and shakes her head. ]

He gave him power... And made him into a puppet. The Dragon Emperor already had a spell on my mother to make her agreeable to war with Forcena and seizure of the mana stones. He used Koren to get things moving while he waited to invade the Mana Holy Land.

[Damn.]

Ennis was a puppet, too. Szilard's. [And hey, where did that come from. He covers his face with his arm again.]

Ennis? Oh yeah, the other girl... [ Other girl? Where did that come from, Angela? She probably should cover her face too, but she's taking the more casual approach and looking away. ]

[Fortunately he's still giving his sleeve a close-up examination, so he doesn't notice.] She... Szilard... [It doesn't seem right, somehow, telling Angela about what Ennis is.]

She was sort of tied to him. Like that.

[ Thank Goddess for clueless males. ] He used her to do things she wouldn't normally do, you mean?

Not at first. At first she didn't... I mean, she didn't know better, I guess. But after a while... She didn't want to, any more. She didn't like having to be with him, having to... well. He was pretty awful. And he could hurt her. Kill her with just thinking about it.

So you saved her from him, right?

Yeah. [Hello, sleeve, what lovely stitching you have. He doesn't sound exactly enthusiastic, even though he's trying to.] Yeah, I did. I'd do it again, as many times as I had to.

She's a lucky girl. To have you, that is.

[Ahaha, he doesn't think so. So yeah, trying to figure out something to say to that and not having much luck. BECAUSE FEELINGS.]

[ She looks over at him, frowning. ] Firo? Did I say something wrong?

[Cue fake smile. He shakes his head.] Nah.

Are you sure? I... don't want to misunderstand you.

[SO NOT GOING TO TELL HER ABOUT EATING SZILARDLOL.] It's just... I saved her. So she tied to me now, instead of him. I've never... I mean, I've not used it. I'd never hurt her. We talk in each others' heads sometimes, in meetings and things, but I don't like doin' even that much. She's never... It's just... I dunno.

So she's bound to you instead of him now, and you treat her well, don't take advantage of her... [ She turns over to look at him, concerned. ] So why do you look so guilty about it? What more do you feel like you should have done..?

She's still bound, though. I... [BOY IS NOT GOOD AT EXPLAINING.]

You want her to have her freedom. [ Angela turns back onto her back and closes her eyes. ] I see.

And she's stuck with me. Pretty much forever.
