Well, isn't it nice that all that business is over? I've been a bit busy dealing with the aftermath since then - ahhh, no matter. No one wants to hear about that, do they?

Lapis, Lazuli? I must regretfully decline any further doses of what you gave me - however beneficial, I rather like keeping my temper in control.


Now. The rest of you lot... I must pardon my previous behaviour - if I've growled, snarled, or generally seemed less than mannerly... well. I regretfully state that I was under a bit of a modification that made me significantly more hostile.

But it's the second one that I seem to get a lot. First the Doctor, now you.

You could rip me apart. Have me for dinner, if hoops don't suit your fancy. The Twins would probably bring me back, seeing as I owe them still. So you could kill me as many times as you like, for your entertainment.

The bravery comes in standing up to me - but foolishness and bravery oft times come hand in hand.

[he chuckles a bit, quiet, dark]

Ahhh, but why would I want that? Prior to this, we got on rather... well. While I am most certain you taste much better than your friend... I'm not overly fond of humans.

[he pauses]

You didn't tell me what you intend on doing.

What can I do? I could try to get revenge on you, but I'm a police officer, not a vigilante. I could try to arrest you, but no one could see you. Both options would end with me waking up to Lapis and Lazuli and in even more debt.

A man still capable of retaining control despite faced with his friend's killer. My, my. I've not seen someone like that for ages, at least, not in humans. So easily triggered into attacking...

Pity for you, isn't it? A killer walking about, unable to ever be brought to justice...

[he laughs derisively at him, then smiles in a pleasant way]

Such a pity you can't do anything except let me go on as is. Or rather, anything to stop me. There are always alternatives.

Indeed. Though, the same could be said of me - though unlike humanity, I have to wear my animalistic traits.

[he stops his circling and faces Sam fully]

You could send others after me, of course. If they died, that'd again be on your head.

You could ignore me.

Or... we could make an exchange. I'll not kill you or your friend again, as part of the bargain. All you'll need to do is make sure no one else tries to meddle in my affairs - and you can't tell them why, exactly.

[he nods slightly]

[grows still, then runs his tongue under his incisors; curls his fingers into his palm, uncurls them; takes in a deep breath, holding it, swallowing, and then releases it; presses his lips together, licks them; takes in another breath - and then let's it go, clearly pained]

I'm not a bent copper. Even for Gene, I can't. [laughs a little, though it's hardly a happy laugh] And he'd kill me himself if he thought I was trying to protect him.
