Not that I know of - other than I shouldn't even be alive right now.

No, you shouldn't. And yet ... I am glad you are. I didn't even know you'd been hurt; I think I should have been upset if you'd died and not come back and I'd have never known.

I don't think anyone knew. It probably would have taken a while before anyone noticed.

Does it bother you that I did?

A bit, yes. It's nothing I wanted anyone to know.

There's no need to apologise. It couldn't be helped on your part. [a small nod] I would appreciate it. My problems needn't be on anyone else's shoulders.

Perhaps. I'd rather not cause you discomfort, however. [smiles faintly] Ever the soldier, my dear Brigadier. Willing to take all the world's worries on your shoulders, but share none of the burden?

Yet I'm discomforting you. [weak smile] That's what comes with leadership. You have to bear the burden without flinching or the people under you - the people with you - lose their confidence.

It is nothing, don't worry. [pets his cheek] Even leaders need someone to lean on, Brigadier. Don't forget that.

I know. I'm not going to do anything foolish, either. I just need a bit of time to sort things out.

Understandable. Should you need anything, however, don't be afraid to ask.
