(no subject)

[Donna appears on the plane, somewhat guarded and weary. She looks around for a moment but then relaxes just slightly, pushing her hair out of her face]

Anyone needs me, I'm going to the pub. I need a pint. Or two.

[and thus she begins the trek to the pub]

[he walks alongside her]

...Fine. Tried to find you earlier. Busy?

[and he stops dead]

I should have guessed.

[awkward]

Not very pleasant, was it? They weren't exactly quick on offering clothes.

[he begins walking a bit, at least to where she is]

Yes. I don't think anyone else knows. ...She's still free.

[he tilts his head a bit and gives her a bit of a side glance]

Perfectly fine, Miss Noble. [lie and a half] I'd rather neither of us have to do it again.

She approached me on the Astral Plane. She doesn't seem to have any remorse. It isn't an accident when you put your hand through someone's chest. [he grabs his swagger stick and gives it a good thump against his leg] I'm going to find some way to keep it from happening again, Miss Noble.

[he nods briefly] She did the same to me. Though I had a broken finger and a bullet wound to the chest prior to it. Bit me as well.

Hopefully you won't. [he raises his brows at the dagger pulled out of her boobs, but doesn't say anything about it] We'll do something, then. If she can't be killed, there must be a way to disable her. [he pauses] Perhaps we could discreetly bring it up to him.

I killed her several times before she got to me. Shots to the head seem to work well. [the Brigadier taps his stick in his other hand] Let's just head to the pub. I could do with a drink.

[might need to inspect that at a later date. you know. for proper procedure in that sort of thing] Hm.

Whisky will do me well enough, Miss Noble.

[that they do]

We don't have much luck with holidays, do we? Mine are always spent working.

[he takes his glass] Thank you.

It never is. It's not like that back in '73, I doubt it'll change in some thirty-odd years.

I was 38 when it was all revealed to me. Robotic Yetis in the London Underground. I had just been named CO of my base only to have my men slaughtered. [he drinks his] It's what he does, Miss Noble. He finds people and they get swept up behind him in the chaos and disaster. You just have to pray you keep your wits about you.

[Brig nods] Though nothing quite prepares you for this sort of situation. I've been prepared for death for a long time - not wanting it, just accepting it as a possibility - but coming back never crossed my mind.

[he drinks] That it is. [he pauses] You'd have made a good soldier, Miss Noble. A lot of people think it's just killing, but the very nature of a soldier is to defend. We risk our lives to protect those who cannot protect themselves.

[identity profile] barelyemoting.livejournal.com 2008-05-21 08:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, it is. Just as it's two different things to go through it and come out alive, and die during it, only... to come back. [pause] It's just been bothering me.

[he chuckles a bit] If you can face down adversity to protect others, then you have it in you.

Not for us, anyway.

[he finishes his glass] No. It isn't.
