[Have an energized-looking Misaki with a massive bruise on one side of her face appearing with tables, standing whiteboards, file cabinets, and lots and lots of paper. She takes a stack of files to a table and fishes a legal pad from another, then sits down and starts flipping through the files, referring constantly to the tidy list on her legal pad and making notes every once in a while with triumphant little noises.]

[Wanders up like usual and notices the bruise first. Wargh.]

What happened this time?

Hnn? [She looks up, clearly distracted, and winces when she rubs her eye.] Oh! Oh, that.

Yes, that.

[She flips through several files before locating the one she wants.] Gene is teaching me how to box.

[fjdkal] Mr. Hunt is?

[Have a look of mild surprise at the reaction.] Well... yes.

[Stares at her a moment, but then he just shakes his head, smiling a little.] He must respect you a great deal, then.

I don't know about that. Still calls me a bird, and he didn't want to teach me in the first place.

[Laughs, rolling his eyes in amusement.] Sounds like him. He's the kind of guy whose respect you need to fight for. Doesn't help that he doesn't really seem to like people he sees as "different."

[Gestures to the files and such.] Any reason you decided to bring your whole office here?

[Her little predatory smile.] I'm getting rather good at fighting him.

We got a lead.

A good skill to have, if you're going to stick around here.

[Eyes widen a little.] That's excellent! How?

[Her enthusiasm dampens a little.] They tried to take one of our child-Contractors, but the kid managed to disable one of the kidnappers.

I was right. It's a gang.

Always useful. [Pauses and then frowns.] Sorry. That's amazing, though. You're one step closer to finding and stopping them.

Where do you go from here?

[She shakes her head, then perks up again.]

I'm cross-referencing the abilities we've seen exhibited in this case with similar or identical abilities tagged to Contractors at large. Then we can go back over the Messier data from the days of the abductions and body drops and see if we can't narrow down our list of suspects.

Even though the Messier data is incomplete?

All the files I have here are Contractors at large whose abilities and Messier codes are registered. Most of them have kept too low a profile for Foreign Affairs to care about their activities, but they're still logged. If their star was active on that day, it gives us something to shoot for.

[Grins slowly.] It's only a matter of time before you corner them.

[Grin fades.] But be careful, Misaki. Contractors are more dangerous when they're cornered.

[Quietly,] Believe me, I know. We're trained for this. We're all trained for this sort of thing, now.

[Watches her for a moment, then smiles.] I know. You'll catch them, one way or another.

[Notices the bruise when he comes to see what she's going] What happened?

Nothing, really. [Wades through files.] Training.

[Relaxes a bit at that. He knows how tough training can be. He starts looking at some of the stuff she's brought] What kind of training?

Oh, nothing to do with this. [She waves at the setup.] DCI Hunt is teaching me how to box. I'm not so apt a student as I'd like to be.

Boxing? [Somewhat surprised] That's an interesting choice.

[Razzlefrazzlewhere'sthatdamnfile?] Well, I was never much good at hand-to-hand, and DCI Hunt has experience.

[Leans against one of the tables] Learning hand-to-hand is always a good idea, but most of the women I know prefer martial art styles, not boxing.

[Sheepish.] I know a little martial arts, but I never really took to it. We were required to learn the basics in academy.

So boxing works better for you? [Pokes through some of the papers] What's all this for?

[Brushes the bruise lightly.] We'll see about that, I suppose.

My case. The child killer--it's a gang, and we're trying to track down some of the members.

There's a gang behind it?

[She nods, digging through several files to find another one of the ones she's looking for.]

[ curious Angela is curious! ] That's quite a shiner. Want me to bring you some ice?

[Amused.] Really, I'm fine! I was training with a friend, that's all.
