One version of it, yes.

The other is where you, for whatever reason, kill your grandfather and as a result, you don't exist - but if you don't exist, you didn't kill your grandfather, so he never dies. And that means you do exist.

[he rolls his eyes] Mr. Hunt, I'm inviting you to a pub. If I wanted to bite you, I could have done that earlier. Not to mention, I'm not about to get in a scuffle while my leg is still healing. Not only would I risk tearing it open, I'd most likely get lectured by the Doctor... and I am in no mood for being lectured.

I'm not surprised. [at any rate, he leads the Master to the place on the Plane where the bar once was. it's still there, but most of the bottles have been destroyed. Gene makes a face, then begins sifting about looking for a good bottle, coming back a few minutes later with two glasses and a half-empty bottle of booze] It'll have to do.

I think otherwise, Mr. Hunt. When I was younger - much younger, just a bit over 200 - I wanted to make the universe a better place. No tyranny, no murder, no wars, no violence.

[he laughs, then takes a drink]

It can't ever happen though. Took me far too long to realise it. Too many people dead. [he tilts his glass a bit towards Gene] The universe is a nasty place, Mr. Hunt. The only ones who got anything done were the ones who used force.

[he shakes his head] No. There's no instant translation like that - it's more gradual. If you want to keep something safe... after a while, you might get to any length.
