[Hei appears on the Plane and promptly collapses, flopping onto his back and breathing hard. He looks exhausted, but he's also grinning. After a moment, he catches his breath.]

I did it. It finally worked.

Have you...thought of the possibility that this might mean you could see him again? People seem to come and go as well with merged realities.

You worry about the Gate?

[Nods.] That's why I can't allow anyone's reality to merge with mine.

I think you're giving many people here too little credit, Hei.

[Glances at him.] You couldn't understand the Gate unless you'd actually been there, Mu. But it's not you or Milo or even Misaki I worry about. It's the normal people here. The kind who don't deal with the paranormal on a regular basis.

[Closes his eyes.] Anyway, no one deserves to deal with the Gate and the Contractors unless they have to.

What I've gathered from you leads me to believe that Contractors tend to lay low when possible, and that the Gate itself doesn't do much provided one does not stray too close. Am I wrong?

They do. It does. But I can't take that chance. Contractors are cold-blooded killers, and they wouldn't hesitate to kill someone if they thought they were being threatened.

I can see where your concern stems from...but again, I do not think you're giving enough credit where it is due.

You say contractors will kill when threatened? Who among those you deem 'normal' will ever pose a threat?

It's not always when they're threatened. All they need is a reason, just a small reason that they can justify with logic. Killing means nothing to a Contractor.

[Frowning,] Sam Tyler and Gene Hunt, because they're police officers. Mr. Tyler asks too many questions, anyway. The hyena and Cy, because talking animals might be Contractors. Mion Sonozaki, because she knows about Contractors. Fumie Hashimoto, maybe, if they reported her glasses to the wrong people. As for the rest of you, you pose a threat just by existing. The first time I came here, you read my mind. That's all the reason a Contractor needs.

[Pointed look at Mu.] I've had this conversation before, Mu. I'm not changing my mind.
