[ Angela has brought a rabite with her to the Astral Plane, and is currently attempting to teach it tricks. She's pretty much failing miserably. She dangles a carrot above it. ]

[He grins.] I guess there are always exceptions--always an odd one out, right?

I guess so, and I tend to attract them. [ She takes a bit of pity on the dumb rabite and feeds it the carrot anyway. ] I wonder if I should name him.

[Hei chuckles at that. He watches the rabite munch the carrot.] A name might be good. Hm...

How about Mochi?

Mochi's kind of cute. Does it mean anything?

[Food on the brain.] Ah, well it's a sort of Japanese sweet. Rabbits are supposedly good at making mochi--and he kind of looks like a rabbit. [Blinks.] Actually, he looks kind of like mochi himself...

Naming him after food? I don't know...

The thought of eating a rabite is a little... [ She makes a face. ]

Ah! No, no, I wasn't suggesting--no, of course not! [Chuckles a little, a bit embarrassed.] It's just, it's a bit of a trend in Japan, to name small animals after food. Particularly sweets. People think it's cute, I guess.

Oh! [ She starts laughing ] Sorry, one of my friends is part beastman. I guess I'm a little used to expecting his kind of logic.

Mochi is a really cute name. [ She squats down and scoops up the rabite ] Do you like that, hmm? Mochi?

Really? What exactly is a beastman?

[Smiles because, awwww.]

Hmm, they're pretty much what they sound like. They're big, fuzzy people during the day time, and they turn into wolves and tigers and such at night. Kevvie's part human, so he's not as big and fuzzy as the others, but he does change at night.

[ Mochi has started munching on Angela's hair, and soon as she notices, she pulls the hair out of the rabite's mouth ] Hey. Cut that out.

I see--that sounds pretty interesting. Are there lots of different kinds of people in your world?

[Chuckles a little at the hair-eating rabite.]

Not a lot, really. Humans, elves, beastmen. There are magicians like me, too, but we're pretty much just humans with pointy ears. There are fairies, too, or were. I think all the others died out, and the one I knew became the new Mana Goddess.

Right, I remember you talking about magicians. But what exactly is a Mana Goddess? What's Mana, for that matter? Ah, if you don't mind me asking, that is.

The Mana Goddess was originally the creator of my world. She made everything from plants and animals to humans, then went to sleep in the Mana Holy Land, inside the Mana Tree.

And Mana is pretty much... well. It's magic, but it's also the source of life. It comes from the Goddess and the Tree, and it pretty much keeps our world going.

...Wow.

That's...really amazing. But...if the Tree keeps your world going, what if someone tried to do something to it?

Someone did try. Several someones, actually. My friends and I managed to stop them, though the Goddess did die. The fairy took her place, though, and things are pretty much back to normal now.

[Frowns.] That's awful. I'm glad it worked out in the end, though.

[ She nods, scratching Mochi's head distractedly ] It's better now, actually. For me, at least. My mother was under the Dragon Emperor's control most of my life. It's weird to actually have a mother now, y'know?

I haven't seen my friends in a while, though. Everyone went back to their countries and it's been quiet. Maybe a few of them will show up here.

The Dragon Emperor? Was that the one who was trying to destroy the Tree? And what do you mean, "control?" [Pauses, and then looks a little sheepish.] Sorry if I'm prying...it's just really interesting to hear about other places and such.

You'd be surprised how often people turn up here. [Smiles a little.] It's nice having friends show up here, after all. Gives you something more to share with them.

It's okay, I don't mind. [ She smiles a little, and sets Mochi down as he starts wiggling ] There were three trying to go after the Goddess, the Dragon Emperor, the Masked Mage, and the Dark Prince. The Dragon Emperor was the one using my country to try and get into the Holy Land. He had a spell on my mother that made her... well, a lot like a zombie. Then he brainwashed Koren, and Koren took over as the court magician, and the Dragon Emperor used him and my mother to try and get the Mana Sword. They attacked my friend Duran's country, Forcena, and tried to use me to open the door to the Holy Land as a sacrifice. We got to the Holy Land first, and got the Sword, but we had to trade it to the Dark Prince's lackeys because they had the fairy, then the God Beasts were released from the Mana Stones...

It got pretty chaotic, but we won in the end. [ She folds her arms and nods ]

Have any of your friends showed up here?

[Listens intently to her story, not saying a word.]

It does sound chaotic. But I'm glad you succeeded. You really are quite the ruler, aren't you? [Beams at her.]

Ah, yes. A police officer, Misaki Kirihara. I don't know if you've met her yet.

Yep, I'm pretty good at what I do! [ That confidence is definitely not hiding the fact that she's blushing, but hey, she's trying! ]

Hmm, no, I haven't talked to her yet. I've really only met a few people here.

[Smiles.]

She's a good person. [Chuckles.] If you do meet her, she'll probably ask you even more questions than I have. She likes to know things.

[ Angela makes a face at the idea of being interrogated. ]

I hope she's as friendly as you are, then.

[Smiles.] She usually is. She's a cop at heart, so sometimes she focuses more on the question than the person, but she means well. And she's good about not pursuing topics that might make people uncomfortable.
