[Misaki appears on the Plane with two comfortable-looking chairs, seeming quite uncomfortable herself.]
Sam Tyler. I need to speak to you.

[sighs] Dolls, Contractors... any other apparent 'sub-humans' in your employ?
[a beat] I don't mean to implicate you. It's apparent you don't agree with the policy here.

[She leans back in the chair and stares up at the sky, a tiny, ironic smile on her face.] That was before they switched Doll induction and and termination to another department. I think they suspected me. But can't dismiss the heroes you parade around for publicity, can you? Sends the wrong message to the people who are supposed to trust you.

Does the public know about Contractors and Dolls?

We're going to get into details now that Li-kun was likely trying to protect you from. Should the wrong people from either his reality or my own appear here, knowing any of this can--and probably will--get you killed.

[more seriously] I'll keep the information to myself. I'll... try not to do anything to get myself killed. I promised Fumie.

I... suppose it starts with Heaven's Gate. At least, that's as far back as I know of the history. [Pause.] There was a war there. It's been called a lot of things, Heaven's Fall, other melodramatic titles. The war was between... god, between everyone. America, England, various South American dictatorships who thought they could gain themselves ground. Mexico had a small presence, and there were some other countries. The alliances were so tangled, I can't remember who all was helping who. They wanted the Gate. They all wanted it. This was shortly after the M.E. was developed.
[She leans forward, looking at the ground.] Something happened. Some Contractors serving England went rogue and sabotaged the Gate. At the time, no one but a select few knew what had happened or why. South America was nearly annihilated. It effectively ended the war. The Contractors involved disappeared.

[She chews her lip thoughtfully.] There's something else I should try to explain, before we go any further. The people responsible--the ones who wanted to kill the Contractors. They were part of an international organization that I've only ever heard called 'the Syndicate'. They enjoyed melodrama, it seems.

[She considers for a while.] I thought I was just a police officer, doing my job, protecting my city from dangerous elements. Some agencies employed Contractors--I got to know an English agent named November 11 rather well--we did not. We worked with Contractors from other agencies, however. Particularly during the case I worked on that culminated in the Hell's Gate incident. [A pause.] I was tracking down a Contractor called the Black Reaper, Messier designation BK201.
