[So, in honor of her birthday, Rose Tyler has set up typical birthday party things--cake, pie, party hats, cola, cookies, and food in general. And there are streamers. OH YES. They're pink.]

...I don't think I'm forgetting anything. Oh! Right! [And there's a game of pin the tail on the donkey hanging up on a tree]. Love that game.

[There's mischief in her grin now.] Tell that to Saito. He's maybe twice your size, a wrestler, and has a tendency to jump when I say his name. [Frown.] Of course, he's also seen me gun down a charging suicide bomber, so I suppose it's a hard comparison to make.

[Takes another swig from the bottle, this time expecting the burn. She dabs delicately at her mouth with her wrist.] And thank you, I suppose. It comes in handy doing undercover work. Men are more likely to brag if they find you attractive.

[pulls out another flask and takes a drink himself] Not big on undercover work myself. I'll do it, but I'd rather just break the door down and nick some bastards red-handed.

And as you say, I'm a bit of a twig to be busting down many doors. Shoot out the hinges, maybe, but... [Inspects the other party goers.]

A few weeks ago I wouldn't have believed anything like this was possible. Funny, considering where I come from.

It's just unreal. This place, this... [Waves the flask expansively. She sighs.]

When I was a teenager, the whole world changed. The sky disappeared. The stars were all replaced by fake ones. These spaces, we called them the Heaven's and Hell's Gates, showed up. Physics, logic, normalcy--nothing applies as we know it within those spaces, it seems. Six years ago? South America was all but destroyed when the Heaven's Gate space shifted to cover most of the continent. Millions of people died. Before the Gates showed up, I never would have believed them possible, either. At this point in my life you'd think I'd've given up being surprised.

[Takes another drink.]

[snorts] I still don't think all this bollocks is real, mind. Hard enough believing Tyler's from 'Hyde' as it is, but this? [shakes his head] Nothing's simple anymore. Nothing's the way it should be. Bloody pisses me off.

He's not in trouble. [takes a drink from his flask. mmm, whisky] Not yet, anyway.

[Contemplates her own flask for a moment.] The trouble that he could get in--does it come from Hyde, or the fact that he's not telling you something?

There's always something he's not telling me. That's not the problem. [frowns] It's what he does tell me that is. [shrugs] Nothing to get into here, though.
