θ 12 - Coup of the Zygons
[This is it. The Doctor's recruited his friends and allies and currently, is fast at work running around the central console while he sets coordinates for the first of many locations. The ride is particularly bumpy, but thankfully for those unaccustomed to TARDIS travel, there are railings to hold onto, as well as a grated floor to cling to should anyone find themselves on the ground. (Hopefully not--but at least they'd be prepared in case things shift and the console room is perpendicular to it's original position.) All the while, the Doctor is shouting instructions as he has a lot to get through before he can let anyone out to their locations.]
Now, this batch of Zygons learnt from their predecessors and hid their ships much closer to populated areas so they could slip in and assimilate faster, thus speeding up their time-frame for the conversion of Earth to a more Zygon-friendly environment. So! They blocked off a few tunnels here and there after kidnapping a few key people who could help them hide their actions better, grew their semi-organic ship structure into the tunnels and whammo, a shelter for the many captive humans. [He pulls a face and wrenches down on a lever.] All right, never saying "whammo" again.
Anyway! [The TARDIS jerks again, but the Doctor is sure-footed as a mountain goat and only vaguely fumbles as he switches on yet another stabiliser which really doesn't do anything, but it's the thought that counts, right?] I'm going to try to get you all as close to the body-print machine tunnels as I can without setting off their sensors. Once you're in, make doubly sure you do not get caught. If any of you do and they take away your communications devices, then I won't have a way to know or help until it's too late. And don't let them touch you either; they could very well sting you if they're feeling up to it and, well, since you're in their ship, chances are very high that they will!
You'll know the body-print machines when you see people standing up with their hands up like they're about to be robbed. Each machine has four valve controllers, and to release each person--and yes, you've got to do it individually for every single person there or else you'll kill both the person and the Zygon linked to it--you need to gently massage and squeeze the ends of the two bottom levers. You'll see the person start to wake up, but they'll be a bit weak and disorientated for a couple minutes. Tell them you're there to help and that you need their help to get the others out. Then--well, you get the idea. The quicker you do so, the easier it'll be on you all. If you hear anyone coming, get them to hide back in their pods, and hide in one yourself. They don't exactly check to make sure they have too many extra.
Now that's the easy part. [The Doctor pauses to run to the opposite side of the console, and fiddles with a few other switches and dials. A moment later, the rocking in the TARDIS slows, the central column churning slower and slower but it doesn't stop yet. This gives him a chance to walk around freely now he's put the old girl into a holding pattern.] The harder part is getting the Zygons to leave their ship, make sure everyone gets out safely, and self-destruct their ship without getting yourselves hurt or drowned in the process. Thankfully, there are only so many Zygons per ship and they usually leave a couple behind to maintain the body-print machines and other systems, so you'll likely only have to lure them out of the control rooms. And since they don't exactly vary their ship designs, the control room should be near those machines in some way or another. Remember those four valve controllers? Hold up something hot like a match or lighter to it to induce a fire alarm. The Zygons should come out and leave it open for you lot to run in and lock the doors behind you. Just destroy the door controls of the door you just came through and that ought to do it. Once you're there, call me and I'll walk you through the next steps. Just be prepared to run when you do.
[And conveniently, that's when the TARDIS engines slow to a stop. He glances at it briefly, and then runs around to make sure everything is off and safe for disembarkation.]
All right, if any of you get in any kind of trouble or can't find what you're looking for, get a hold of me as soon as possible. And... [He trails off, putting on a small smile.] Good luck, and thank you.
[ooc: Time to stop the invasion! Information about Ten's plot can be found here if you missed it. Have any questions, drop me a line there!
For those already involved in the plot: I have four cities (NYC, Paris, Washington DC, and Tokyo, in addition to Birmingham for Oliver and Jamie) that the Doctor's going to drop people off to, and each city will have a comment to start that leg of the adventure. Tag into the city you want to visit! I strongly suggest no more than two people per city (and I'll be interacting with each thread as you need me as the Doctor or as any kind of narration you guys will need to get further along. If we get more people, I'll add more cities, but so far, it works out that everyone on the list will fit into these five, with one of you teaming up physically with the Doctor. (So if you want him, please say so! He'll just come back to that city if he's already left to drop others off.) Other than that, have fun! The Zygons sure will <3]

He pulls out a pair of binoculars, looking far ahead with them.]
Makin' themselves real easy to find, aren't they?
[He's suspicious of that, too.]
no subject
And now I shall wait for details from Vampy about what can be seen.
[He squints through the glasses, searching not only the distant light but the dark areas leading up to it.]
Have some details for what can be seen and beyond! <3
Do either of them dare press the panel?
If they do, the panel will open, letting them into a proper Zygon ship tunnel which...well, looks pretty much the same but a bit pinker in places. Plus it has a couple more panels with glass-like sliding doors covering them. Except the two on the sides are empty and dark, whereas the one at the end will open up to the the body-print machines where they'll find four openings and six occupied spots.
Of course, if they don't press the panel yet, they won't get in. The rats like the company. Much better than the weird Zygons any day, in their book.
Don't dally too long, though; after a few minutes, some very human (or are they?) voices will start to echo up the normal subway tunnel towards them, gradually growing louder. The two will be complaining about the snow and how they can't wait to be rid of the frigid white stuff. (Of course, they could be a poor Southern couple stuck in NYC during the winter, but one never can tell.)]

[as he squints through the glasses, she takes a few steps forward, sweeping her torchlight over the area. she can see the change in the walls at least, and she makes a face] Are you seeing this? I'd say it's a fair bet this place gets even better just a few feet forward. We might even be about to become Jonah... [she eyes those walls, trying to discern whether they look like a mouth. she really hopes they aren't walking into an actual creature because that would be particularly unpleasant. Symbios never was her favourite place, after all]
no subject
Don't worry about bein' Jonah. You have no idea how many times I've been eaten. [He says it casually, edging closer to the panel on the wall. He can't tell much more with his tech, and he's still going in relatively blind, compared to what he's been told.] I've always made it out alright.
[He looks over at her and then towards the panel. Then inclines his head towards her. She can push the button, and then he can make sure the coast is clear before they proceed.]

[Kay's head gestures are clear enough that she nods, going quiet. she doesn't want to accidentally alert anyone inside to their presence, after all. stepping up to the panel, she presses her hand against it. as it opens, she gestures at Kay to go ahead and lead the way]

[He goes around her, gun up, and glances around for... anything. No one so far, but there seems to be some machinery. He goes over to the set-up. Six machines, and he's not quite sure what they're for. He can make a few good guesses, though.
He looks over his shoulder.] You seen one of these before?
no subject
[she follows him, keeping an eye out behind. but at the sight of the occupied machines, she gives a low whistle] No, but I'd say they've got a thing or two in common with the Doctor's description. [she eyes those bottom two...lever things, remembering the Doctor's instructions] I'll get the people out. You keep an eye out. [and without further ado, she reaches forward to start squeezing the strange levers, making a face as she does so]

Yank 'em out of those sardine cans fast. We're the foxes in the henhouse at the moment.
no subject
[she cuts herself off as the young man in the first machine starts to wobble. she grabs his shoulders, helping to guide him out of the contraption. he's clearly woozy, wanting to know where he is] Don't worry about that right now. I'm DI--[she stops herself, remembering this is New York]--I'm with the police. We're going to get you out of here. [she gestures at Kay] But we need your 'elp freeing everyone so we can get you to safety. Watch what I do and do the same. Got it?
[she takes the man's blearily nod as a good enough answer for the moment. not wanting to waste any more time, she quickly starts releasing a second person while the man slowly makes his way over to free a third]

Type of alien. Five letters. Middle letter is a 'g'.
[His gun lit up.] He dropped us off without much of a map out, didn't he? I know New York tunnels but not what these guys did.
no subject
[In a corner, unseen so far as, well, even all this stuff has been so alien and strange to it, that it hasn't known what to do, sits a rat. But this is no ordinary rat even as far as New York City rats tend to go. It lets out a squeak, recognizing both the gun and Agent K, and slips out of its hiding spot. Its voice is high-pitched, and a little squeakier than normal out of relief.] Oh thank goodness the MIB is here! What took you guys so damn long, huh?
no subject
[she continues her work, as does the freed captive, and the next two people begin to wake almost simultaneously. she's trying to calm them down when the rat starts to speak]
[for a second, she looks around, trying to find the source of the voice. realising what it is, however, she gives Kay a sharp look] Friend of yours?

Hey, if it's dinner you want, I know a good joint 'round the back of a Chinese-American fusion bar. My treat--both to you and the new trainee here. [To the little alien, anyone unfamiliar with things but unflinching in the face of a talking "rat" must be an MIB trainee of some kind. And, it must be added, the more the alien talks, the more it's apparent it's adopted quite the Long Island/Jersey accent.] Anything to get me out of here with my neck intact, you know what I mean? It's just me here and I haven't dared escape yet out of fear of being caught--but I've been watching those things, you can bet your ass on that. Even tried to help out those poor bastards in there a couple of times, but I just can't work those whatever they are. [The alien points a little clawed finger at the controls Menzies and the former captive are working on.]
I should be able to help you get out of here, though. I've heard those orange phalluses talking about a backdoor.
[Elsewhere in the ship, a lone Zygon is puttering around, maintaining systems, and generally being dutiful in its actions. It hasn't yet noticed that anything is amiss.]
no subject
[without missing a beat, she hurries over to start on the final captive herself as the original captive finally frees the one woman of the group]
Glad to 'ear it! We need to know where it is, you and these people are gonna 'ead out of it, and we'll need directions to the control room. We've got an alien ship to take care of before we leave.
no subject
I'll make some introductions later. And I'll switch to the icer. [He pulls out said freeze gun from his ankle holster.]
Get in my jacket if it looks like they might shoot at me. [Unsurprisingly the suit has some reinforcement. He speaks quietly, listening for their friend.] Left or right, big guy?
no subject
[It doesn't speak again immediately, its ears perked up as it listens to the Zygon moving in the control room.] Gotta go right, but if you wanna mess with the ship, you're gonna wanna go right into this room right over here. But be careful. One of those orange goons is in there, too. [The little alien's trying not to sound nervous, but uh, it is. It wants to get home, damnit, and that other alien is starting to make some noise.]
no subject
So, think you can get this group out on your own while we deal with the Zygons, or would you rather wait 'ere?
[that said, she glances at Kay] And if it's only one, I can get its attention before you sneak up with your equipment. [she gestures at the gun] Unless you 'ad something else in mind.
no subject
[And to their little four-legged friend.] Anything in there you've seen 'em using much?
no subject
Whatever you're gonna do, though, decide quick. I think that galumph in there is noticin' all the chatter. A-and if you want me to lead the humans to safety? I'll do it. [Because the sooner it gets out, the better.]
no subject
[in their continued confusion and disorientation, the people are a bit mute, but they do nod, and a couple even give a quiet assent]
Right. As for a distraction... [she frowns, looking around the room as she considers their options] We open the far door to make it look like this lot went deeper into the ship instead of out. Agent, you wait in one of those pod things--[she gestures at the one nearest the inner door]--and I'll pretend I'm getting you out. He should chase me out the door, and you can come up behind 'im.
[since she doesn't know how fast a Zygon is, she's sure it's a risky plan, but she is confident that Kay is fast--she won't have to stay ahead of the Zygon for long]
