[okay, so a bunch of weird shit has been going on for him lately. that goes without saying, of course - especially considering what had happened to him shortly after his first arrival to the plane. but it seems the weird shit just keeps on happening, and he'd really like to get it all sorted out.

and by weird shit, he means he's been seeing some really strange things back on the mother of invention. things like .. these books written in a really weird language. and this weird symbol. and let's not even talk about the new addition to the armory.

he knows this place messes with people, and thinks that has to be something to do with it - which is why he's found himself back in the library, even though he can't help but to bristle lightly at the memory of what had happened here.

he has to get over it. he will get over it. so!

anyone that chooses to come to the library right about now will find him thumbing through random books, trying to find any kind of connection between them and what he's been seeing back home. because there has to be some way to make some sense of this, right?

[Oh heeey, look who's been doing the exact same sort of research! In fact, she's just grabbed a book off of the shelf when she spots him and makes her way over, already thumbing through the pages.]

Light reading, or business?

Business. [he replies, mouth twisting off to the side as he puts one book back and grabs another one. there's a moment of silence as he opens that one and squints down at it, and then a huff as it's snapped shut and put back.

not entirely where he'd found it, but .. he's never been great about that.] What about you? Wait a minute, lemme guess - reading for pleasure. [he grins down at her, a single eyebrow quirked upward.]

[Don't even worry about books not being put back properly. You're talking to the chick that just stacks them in huge piles - keepers and non-keepers. Those piles are probably around here somewhere...

Anyway, she gives him a smirk in return, as well as a roll of her eyes.] Actually, business. [She snaps her own book shut.] This time.

[well, at least he puts his back on the shelf .. not that he really cares about where they go, but the fact that jacqli leaves piles around would have amused him.

actually, he's almost positive that he'd tripped over one of those stacks on his way in. oh well.

he pauses in reaching for another book when she says she's here for business, quirking a brow at her.] What're you looking for?

[... Yeah that was probably her doing. Oh well.]

Information. If worlds are going to be merging into mine, then I want to know what I might be dealing with in the future. ... What are you looking for?

[oops? no matter .. it's not like he ended up on his ass on the floor, or anything.

like so many times before.

her answer gives him pause, though - because hey, that's exactly what he's doing.] I've .. been noticing some really weird shit back home, so I thought I'd try to find something out here.

[... Welp. Fantastic. She sighs theatrically.]

You're one of the ones I've merged with. Of course.

[She crosses her arms, looks up at him with a half-hearted little glare. Which in reality is kind of humorous.] So. What "weird shit" did you get?

[Because she's pretty sure some part of it belongs to her...]

[so he doesn't know a whole lot about this whole merger thing just yet - but it's happening, apparently, and he really needs to start getting things together before it starts driving him crazy.

not that it isn't already. but. hey! questions need to be answered here.

the way jacqli is looking at him, it looks like she's blaming him for their merger, and he can't help but to hold his hands up in a hey i totally didn't do this on purpose! gesture.] .. Is that why - oh. I guess that kind of makes sense, then.

[he pauses, leaning back against a bookshelf.] Really off-the-wall stuff, to be honest. Like there were these guns in the armory, right? But they weren't like anything the Project has. And I'm seeing this really weird symbol that makes absolutely no sense to me. And then I started finding these books in my locker written in a language that I didn't even know existed. [cue him holding up the book he'd been looking at.] S'why I'm in here .. trying to find out if I can find anything out about them. What .. kinda stuff have you been finding?

[of course she's blaming him it's his fault damnit

She considers each of those. Strange guns... those could possibly have come from her world, especially since she isn't sure of the differences in firearms between his world and hers. A really weird symbol... vague. Possibly from her world, possibly not. She'd have to see. Books written in another language... also vague. ... Hm. Where to start...?] Do you have any of that with you?

[And in response to his question, she sighs again. Here goes.] For starters, the train that runs along the Rim has merged with a train from some other reality. So long as you're in the train, you're in both realities. I've also found some strange, purple stones, as well as what appear to be small, handheld computers.

[She quirks an eyebrow at him.] Does any of that sound familiar to you?

[inhumanity]

[It's this guy. Peeking over your shoulder.]

york totally doesn't jump at that one word. nope. not at all.

and the book he's holding totally doesn't fall to the floor with a loud thunk.

[and the lineface to end all linefaces.] You. Are not funny.

[he leans down to pick up the book he dropped.]

What's with all the .. holiday bullshit?

[instantly wary.]

[Menzies is seated at a table, pouring over a file and working on some paperwork for a couple cases. there is also a book about insects on the table. catching sight of York, she can't resist calling out:] That you, Agent Montana?

[decrypts]

[and he's too distracted by the book he's currently got in his hands to even notice that she's calling him montana - still - so he simply answers her outright.] Yeah, s'me Menzies .. what're you doin' in here?

[aaaaand then it clicks.] Did you just call me Montana?

Paperwork. The best way to spend an evening, I find!

[she smirks at him] I take it you'd prefer Agent Toronto?

[decrypts]

That's not even a state - never mind.

[he shakes his head, still more amused than he's willing to admit. there's always going to be something about menzies that makes him smile, he thinks.] What kinda paperwork?

[grip_on_reality]

Oh, the thrilling kind. Today... [she glances down at the small pile with her] Filling in little boxes to document all the gory details of a murder and an attempted car theft. And a bit of alien research. [she gestures at the book on insects] We've got a newcomer that doesn't strike me as the sort I should take at face value. Then again, he's got more pincers than face.

So what are you up to, then?

[decrypts]

[he likes that mention of alien research just .. thrown in there so casually that it shouldn't matter. it makes him chuckle a little, and he shifts closer to take a peek at what she's reading.] .. More pincers than face. I .. don't like the sound of that. Why do you have to deal with this again?

[because questions are fun to ask, sometimes.] Oh - I'm just seeing what I can find out on a bunch of stuff .. I've been seeing some really weird crap back home, and there's no real explanation for it.

[currently she's perusing traits of various bugs with pincers. at his question, though, she gives him a curious look. after a pause, she decides that no, she can't remember talking with him about this at all, so he probably has no idea--unless one of the others has told him, of course] Short version? Because nobody else knows they're 'ere. And unfortunately, this one didn't come with a character reference. [she sighs]

[she makes a face at that explanation] Mergers, huh? Are these your first?

[decrypts]

[he's got a really small idea, just because it's been mentioned in passing, but he doesn't know a whole lot about it, no.

so any explanation menzies might be able to give on the subject would be pretty freaking fantastic.]

Mergers, that's what they're called .. yeah, I guess so. This always happen the more time you spend here?

[because he hasn't quite gathered that it has something to do with how much time you spend with someone else, how much you share with them, etc .. derp.]
