[he's about to say he doesn't know a damn thing about locks when something goes off in the back of his mind, some little alarm with a voice that says, very insistently, yes you do!

so without a word he steps forward, tilts his head and ponders the lock thoughtfully before setting to work, and it seems as though only seconds pass before it's popped open and the door is unlocked.

[The book, vellum, pen, and candle are gone, but the thirteenth floor looks much as it did. Morgana's eyes are wide, staring in horror at the angels.]

[he simply stares for a moment. stares at the floor, stares at the angels, and he's walking into the room silently, eyes scanning the bodies lining the walls.]

What .. what is this?

[She can't even walk further in.] I ... it's horrible!

[he's quiet yet again as he steps further into the room, taking in the sight of all the bodies; why are they here? what .. what does it mean?

he keeps walking, and keeps walking, until he sees -

he keeps staring as he comes face-to-face with .. well, his face. his body. motionless. right there in front of him.

and then he turns, eyes wide, uncomprehending.] Is .. is that me?

I think... it looks like it must be. Come, it must just be an image. [She takes his arm.] We should leave this place.

I .. [he feels her hand on his arm, but he can't pull himself away from the image of himself in front of him. he's practically rooted to the floor, eyes wide open and staring.

how the hell is this possible?] I .. I don't .. [he turns to her, and there is fear clear in his eyes. as if he hasn't had enough of that going on for him lately.] What the hell is this place? That can't be me! I'm right here!

It isn't you, it isn't. [Her voice is insistent but level, trying to calm him.] Look at the features. It's a little more feminine--and there are wings. That is not you. You must come away from it.

[her attempts to calm him don't go unnoticed - and if he'd been able to look away from the image that so closely resembles him, it may have done a bit more good than it is.

but as it stands, he .. he can't take his eyes away.] But there .. there's too much resemblance .. too fucking much for it to be a coincidence. I don't - [he brings a hand up as though to touch that other face, but he pauses in midair, more than just a little hesitant.]
