[Menzies is in the kitchen today, enjoying a curry and some milk and looking pensive as she mutters to herself about that pesky cross-reality murder case]

What are my chances of finding it if I just search their flats? And would one of 'em warn the other if I started with the wrong one? Not that they've exactly been acting like they're in league...

[but she lets that thought trail off with a frown as she realises she has company when something large and furry rubs against her legs] ...what.

[she ducks down to look under the table, staring at the tiger that is happily rubbing her and giving off what must be a purr. she gapes] Again! Damnit, he did set this up! Of all the absolute--

[she cuts off as the tiger noses her face, apparently unhappy that she seems so displeased. it makes beseeching noises at her as she quickly pulls back] Oi, get off! I don't need comfort; you're the problem!

[ooc: Menzies messed with Gabriel, so he thought it would be fun to have the tiger that was trailing him follow her around instead. It's acting as a pet and bodyguard, so be warned that upsetting Menzies at the moment will also upset the tiger. But feel free to visit her and her new friend! He's generally quite tame, really.]

[So he'll never be able to truly tell how much time has passed. Well, at least he knows for certain now. As for her explanation, he understands that very easily.] Then you must perform your job extremely well to be in such a position. [Yet this confirms that he should keep an eye on her--and no doubt, she'll be doing the same at some point.]

What do I do? [He laughs softly. The question isn't as simple for him to answer as it was for her.] I am a prince of Asgard, therefore, I have certain duties I must attend to every day. I represent Asgard and the All-Father in his place, and I must also train for battle and to prepare to lead our armies for the day when Asgard's enemies rise up against us.

[One with a small amount of knowledge of Norse mythology may notice he doesn't once mention how he shares these duties (though "share" doesn't even begin to describe how equal this "sharing" is) with his brother, Thor...]

[she leaves his comment about her job alone, feeling it needs no response. but Loki shouldn't worry--she's already curious about him]

[admittedly, she doesn't really know Norse mythology. still, political dignitary doesn't fit the description of "the Trickster" that she's heard--and he doesn't look like the military type] A general, really? Sounds impressive.

[Too bad he isn't here in his full armour! His normal attire has enough protection in case of attack and is much heavier than it appears with many layers.]

A prince, actually. [He believes that will be more impressive.] Quite different from..."a general", you said? The term is somewhat familiar to me.

Both, then. [she's amused at his apparent desire to impress. she takes another bite of her curry] Must be a busy life--all those responsibilities.

[He frowns somewhat. Didn't he just say that he was a prince, not a general?] Yes, some days more than others. I expect your own responsibilities occupy much of your time, which is why you must eat here and not back in your own realm. [He sniffs, his brow furrowing.] What is that?

[if he's meant to lead armies, he definitely sounds like a general to her, but she isn't going to force the point. she just gives him an amused smile, both at his astute observation and his question] Curry. Chicken tikka masala. [she pauses to take another bite before clarifying] Chicken in a spicy sauce. 'ave you got chickens in, ah, Asgard?

We do, yes. The aromatics and seasonings are foreign to me, however. [He lets out a small chuckle.] Forgive me, it seems I often say that while I am here--and not just about the food. Is this a popular dish in Midgard?

Midgard? [it takes her a second to work out what he means] All of Earth? [she looks amused at the generalization] I, ah, suppose so, yeah. It's from a region called India, but you can find it in plenty other places. Were you wanting a taste? I'm sure you could find a fork somewhere round 'ere. [she gestures at the drawers about the kitchen]

[curious] So are you saying the Plane doesn't remind you much of Asgard? Or just that the people 'ere don't?

[His eyebrows raise slightly] Actually, such a thought did not cross my mind until now. You would permit me to try it?

[He frowns slightly as he starts to glance about the kitchen, very much lost. Where would someone keep an eating utensil such as the one Menzies is using?] Both. The only similarity is the sky, and even then, the beauty of the one over Asgard is incomparable.

[she shrugs] Why not. It's gone a bit cold, but it's not bad. [from where she's sitting, she points as well as she can at a certain drawer, not wanting to disturb the tiger that is still watching Loki] Try that one.

Then Asgard's got the star motif, too? Not on the ground, I take it? [her expression is curious--interested]

[He follows her finger to said drawer and carefully pulls it open. (Not because of the tiger, but simply because he isn't sure about the drawer itself, like how deep it is, how easy or difficult it is to remove, and so on.) After pulling a utensil similar to hers out from it, he moves to sit in a chair near her, but before he does, he makes it a point to lean down and say to the tiger:] She will not be harmed. [Then he has a seat. If the tiger proves to be trouble, he can swiftly deal with it in varying manners as befits the kind of trouble it may pose.

And speaking of manners, he doesn't simply take a forkful of her curry. He is a prince of Asgard, after all, and waits for her to pass it to him.]

No, the ground is very much normal. [Though this says nothing about the Rainbow Bridge.] If I recall correctly, Midgard has this "motif" as well, does it not?

[the tiger gives a low growl when Loki approaches, but after he speaks, it simply takes a few steps back to place itself quite resolutely between their two chairs--and continues watching Loki like a hawk]

Shh, calm down. [she gives it another awkward pat on the head, hoping that'll help. but then she slides her dish closer to Loki to let him dig into it]

And what's "normal" for Asgard? Grass, dirt, flowers? Or do you walk on clouds? [her smirk implies that her question might not be entirely serious] Yeah, it's got stars. You can only see 'em at night, but they're always out there. Is it always night on Asgard?

[He pokes at the contents of her dish until he's speared a piece of something on the end of the fork and put it in his mouth. It's good, but he's also not expecting the pungent spices to meld so nicely.] This is something all mortals eat?

It is as you said previously: grass, dirt and flowers. But no, it is not always night, at least not in the way you may be thinking. On a clear, sunny day, the sky is very blue and only at its zenith can one see the lights from the closest neighbouring stars overhead. Night on Asgard is far grander, or so I like to think. [He adds a smile to punctuate his sentence.]

[she's amused at his reaction] Pretty much, yeah. Why? 'aven't got it where you're from?

[she can't help her interested expression. while she may have had a lot of dealings with aliens, her experience with actual alien planets is a whole lot less] And that's like the Plane, then? Must be quite a sight. [actually, he's making her wish she could see it, but she certainly doesn't trust him enough to ask for something like that]

No, not this particular collection of spices. [He takes another forkful, eats it, and slides it back to her. It's hers, after all.] Do you know what's in it so I may inform the cooks back home?

[He smiles] It's far more beautiful. Perhaps one day, I could show you.

[she digs back into the dish for another bite] This one's takeaway. [she gestures at it with her fork] But I could get you a recipe for a version of it, if you want.

[she raises an eyebrow, smirking back] Maybe one day.

[He frowns, uncertain about her use of the "takeaway" term and how it relates to how it's made.] Yes, you took it away from your realm to here. But yes, I would like that very much.

[Hopefully when that day comes, he will not regret bringing her there. (Or perhaps he'll have a good reason for bringing a mortal to Asgard.)]

[she snorts] I meant, I got it at a restaurant. I didn't make it myself. But like I said, I'll get you a recipe.

[don't worry, Loki. Menzies is a lot less known for causing trouble than certain other people on the Plane]

[He nods his head slightly, smiling] Then you have my thanks. [He pushes away from the table.]

Are you certain you don't require some assistance with your animal before I depart?

Don't mention it.

[she makes a face] Like I said, I'm gonna 'ave a talk with 'is owner. Thanks anyway. [and the tiger chooses that moment to sit in front of her--right on her feet, actually. she gives it a long-suffering look before rolling her eyes and returning to her curry]

Then so be it. [He gives her a polite bow, eyeing the tiger once more. A trick on the tiger may startle it and thus harm the human--a human within a position of some authority. He doesn't wish to draw too much negative attention to himself quite yet, so this time, he actually does nothing. He simply leaves the kitchen to go and be mischievous elsewhere.

Think yourself lucky, Menzies, that you got away without even a simple conjuring trick.]
