realityshifted | 003 :: heads are not made for carrying things

[ Several months within contact of the Plane, and several months doing his best to feel indifferent towards people he has met -- people he sees as comrades, as friends even, and as family -- is taking its toll. It is against his nature to be indifferent, but it is a necessity: his friends don't need the problems his reality has.

Back home, he has been finding himself experiencing migraines and unpleasant dreams. Though today, he blames the sudden sprouting of ram horns on his head for his headache and the soreness he feels about his neck and shoulders. The throb in his head is such that trying to get back home is a literal pain (and he might just figure out that it's currently impossible), and the thought of flicking to a more comfortable place is too troublesome. Besides, the fallen leaves and the grass on the forest floor can be comfortable too...

With a groan, he digs the heels of his palm against closed eyes as he lies on his back and says to no one in particular through his teeth -- ]

I did not agree to this experiment, damn it! It's not even funny.

[Mu continues to let his Cosmo soothe away some of the pain. He smiles a bit at the words, even as he notices that Kiki is hiding something.]

I'd imagine that wouldn't help your headache any.

[ His eyes squeeze briefly as he smiles and lets out an amused sound. ]

It won't be pretty either. What would others think of Aries Saints if they see me like that?

[ There's an awkward attempt at turning his head away from Mu -- away from his touch, or just to find a more comfortable position? Hard to tell -- but the horn on that side didn't allow that movement, at which his smile appears strained. ]

What is it, lamb?

[ Finally he opens his eyes -- tired, and lack of sleep obvious in his features. ]

Just-- hard to get comfortable with these. You know I'm used to lying on my side.

Is that all?

[HE KNOWS YOU'RE HIDING SHIT.]

Here, put your head on my lap.

[ At the question, he lets out a sigh. Looking to the side and away -- ] no.

[ The offer is met with a bit of a puzzled look, but shortly, Kiki gets himself up to shift towards Mu and gently lays his head on his Master's lap. ] The horns don't hurt -- not at all, even. But... do experiments come with the migraines though?

[Mu starts rubbing Kiran's neck with warmed hands, trying to relieve some of the strain on them.]

A side effect of some, but not normally.

[ His eyes fall shut again. It was almost easy to try being indifferent back home, where he can't see Master, and everyone else he has come to like -- except that the headaches come. ]

Oliver told me you had undergone an experiment too. What happened?

I've been subject to many in my time here. I'm afraid you'll have to be more specific.

[ Mu will be getting an odd, incredulous look. ] Why does that sound as if that's become a normal thing?

Oliver said you'd become a child.

Not normal, but not unexpected, either.

Ahh, yes that's happened three times now; each returning me to a different point in my childhood.

How did that sit with you, once you knew you were experimented on?

[ Kiran can't help but feel miffed. Just who are these Plane "employees" and that they can't be stopped? ]

[Mu's hands still and his shoulders shrug very slightly.] They did not upset me so much. I like it far less when those I care about are effected.

Still doesn't make it right.

[ Kiran's not upset at Mu, nor at his calm. But that is where they differ, and he's upset that they have to be treated like ants under a magnifying glass on a sunny day. He doesn't mind the hands stopping since Master's lap is comfortable. ]

Those you met when you-- came back [ from death ] are they the ones behind this?

They were - Lapiz and Lazuli; twin children, a boy and a girl. They...'hosted' us here for several years, and controlled the goings-on. But they vanished more than a year ago by my reckoning. I'm afraid I'm no longer quite sure who holds the reigns now. Nobody is particularly forthcoming with answers.

Did they ever say why they do this? These experiments? This... bringing people in here?

[ He's not particularly upset over the last bit. He actually feels thankful, but he's not in the mood to actually express that. ]

"To test the machine," the twins told me once. But that was then. I don't know about now.

[ Kiran sighs and closes his eyes. So many things to figure out... ]

It's hard not knowing. I hope to pin down one of those Employees and see what they know. And soon.

It's a considerably harder task now, I think.

[Mu resumes rubbing Kiki's neck]

[ Mu's Lamb is visibly appeased with the contact, as if his ranting also drained him.

For a moment, it would seem as if he would fall asleep, until he speaks again -- ]

Do nightmares come with the experiments as well?

[Mu continues rubbing as he speaks]

They come part and parcel with coming here, I think. I suppose an experiment could make them worse...

Another gift for you, hm?

[ Another pensive pause. He doesn't mind dreaming about Master, about Shion or Sasha; even Oliver and "Miwa" ... ]

Did you get nightmares too? I mean, nightmares about people you've met on the Plane.

Sometimes, though rarely.

What do you see, in your nightmares?

I see many things. People who have come and gone from my life, things that have happened and places I have been. Starbursts and novas - I dream about this place quite often.
