[as per his 'deal' with Ainley!Master, Gene has begun his investigation into where his ~~lover~~ ~~arch-nemesis~~ arch-lover acquired his new bling. being that Gene is Gene, he begins his search where he figures he'll find the most information -- Sam's desk. which includes fiddling around with his glasses and possibly downloading porn (by accident, of course!), before rifling through the papers inside his DI's desk. and what's this~? Hyde 2612? the Guv is, of course, none too happy to see 'Hyde' references in Sam's stuff, but he pockets it anyway and keeps going about looking like the snoop he is]

"By any means." [She frowns.] Killing them doesn't work. So-- [Blink.] God help you. What kind of masochistic undercover are you pulling?

[gives her a very long, very poignant look, then grunts and turns away, lighting a cigarette and going back to rifling through Sam's drawers]

[Her face hardens.] I would have done the same, Hunt-san.

And I did't ask what you'd do, now did I?

You didn't. I don't care. Section-Chief or DCI, we both understand the responsibility we bear for those under us. I just wanted you to know, I would have done the same--and whatever Sam might say if he finds out, he would do it for you, too.

Though you probably find that--what? A "poofter" thing to say?

Tyler's a hypocrite and an idiot and he's not going to find out, are we understood?

And yes. Yes it was.

Of course I understand. It's an undercover--well-meaning or not, Sam-san would blow it within five minutes of finding out.

[As for the second bit, she just smiles.]

[barks a laugh] Know him that well all ready, do you?

I have a sense of him at least. He seems the type. [Brushes her hair away from her face.]

Your sense would be right. He's also the type of bloke who makes the best damn coppers and I wouldn't have anyone else as my DI.

I got that sense, too. He reminds me of someone on my team, actually. Perhaps a bit brighter, but they have the same spirit.

The fact there's anyone else in existence like Sam Tyler makes me want to shit myself.

[It takes a minute, but once she stops laughing, she says (a bit more seriously,)]

I'm not going to press you. But if there comes a time when you find you can trust me, don't hesitate to call on me for whatever you might need.
