[today, Menzies and the Doctor are out in the middle of the Plane. they have a stack of green notebooks on the ground behind them, and they're looking to talk to all the passersby they can]

We've found out more about the monster causing the disappearances--and Grey's gonna take us to it. If you're willing to help, get over 'ere. We need to plan this.

[Ten turns around to grab one of the notebooks. to her:] No, no, no, no. Not like that, Patricia. Like this. [he clears his throat, then holds up a notebook]

Oi, you lot! We've got Grey's notebooks! And we need your help to rescue the people who have been held captive! [never mind they're probably dead by now, but hey, he always tries to be an optimist] We can't wait long, so come on, what are you waiting for?

[then he turns to her, grinning] See? Like that.

[she smirks back at him] Very impressive. But don't get 'em reading the notebooks or we'll never get anywhere.

Ah, so you were successful?

[she nods] I think Grey wants this thing stopped about as much as we do.

Unfortunately, even in all this--[she gestures at the notebooks]--he didn't give us much of an idea of what we're gonna be up against.

[And Kay... comes in because interesting?]

You figure out what he is yet? Ray didn't know.

A straight answer is hardly any fun.

[she shakes her head] But we did figure out who he was. Did I tell you about that story he told us? About Sammy and Charlie and the...whatever the thing is?

[grip_on_reality]

[she snorts] 'Course not. Why would we want to know what we're about to walk into?

So I take it you're coming?

[highfunctioning_sociopath]

[Have a very confused Sherlock... because he really hasn't been here that long.]

Grey's... Notebooks?

No, you didn't. [He's all ears for the moment.

He wants coffee. He'll wait until after the story.]

I couldn't very well stand by knowing what this beast has done.

Ah, basically, two little boys found a monster and one of 'em disappeared. [she goes on to briefly summarize the story Grey told her here]

Before, Grey just said somebody special could find the monster. But it sounds like now he's willing to take any of us along. And he definitely knows where to find it--he's Charlie, all grown up. Just...don't mention that to him. He wasn't exactly happy to be reminded.

[she frowns, not recognising the man] Yeah. Do you know about the disappearances? [that's the easiest place to start, anyway]

[ooc: This is for a plot we've been working on since August. There's more info in the ooc post, but feel free to ask questions!]

[You bet that gets her attention.]

So you got them? Good. Then what do we know now?

[she smirks at him] Didn't think so.

We're gonna get a group together and head to the shop. Bring anything you think you'll need. It sounds like it's in a cave, anyway--and it's probably got very big teeth.

[she really does wish they had more information about it, but they'll just have to work with what they've got]

Tell anyone else you think might wanna come along.

[Oh that's a little unstable. But ties in with those special people being picked to run the machine.] Ray seemed to have a real concern that there was a risk of being eaten.

It's not a fun experience but sometimes you gotta take a risk or two. Hold on.

[He steps off the Plane.

He comes back. He has coffee.] What seemed to make him change his tune?

That won't be difficult. Take care you don't allow those who cannot defend themselves to come along - they'd be liabilities.

Disappearances? Vaguely. A 'fan' of mine... Conan? He mentioned something in passing about it. Though, admittedly, he seemed rather excited to meet me.

[In other words: Sherlock only talked to the lad because no one else was interesting enough and didn't take all of his information seriously.

Sherlock could tell she was someone who was very down-to-business. He appreciates that. No point in beating around the bush or talking pleasantries, when - people disappearing? There's a mystery to be solved!]

[raises an eyebrow. another person in one of those suits of armor? he hopes this one isn't...like that other violet one he ran into previously]

Ohh, hello there! Don't think we've met before but, well, we can do introductions in a mo'. As for what we know, it's a bit of a long story but! It goes like this.

[and Ten proceeds to give her a quick refresher about the voicemails some people got, unwittingly repeating her own back to her at some point. very soon, though, he finally brings it around to the notebooks and how they relate to the voicemails, as well as how Grey--or rather, Charlie--fits into all this. he mentions what happened to bring about their retrieval of the notebooks just to wrap it all up. really, he does go on a very long time and paces a bit while he explains, gesturing wildly at points as he gets more and more into the story--until the stops and adds:]

And now that we've got these, Detective Menzies--[glances at her, noticing she's busy]--and I are going to be leading others to finally defeat whatever has been taking people on our universes and killing them. Grey is the only one who can lead us there.

[Lingering in the distance -- he hasn't forgotten that he's on Menzies' to interview list, but at the same time ... progress on the case is a very good thing.]

[Wow. That's a lot to take in.

The only reason she isn't fidgeting through the whole of his explanation is that this feels so much like a briefing, she's far too used to staying still. Though she does nod, every once in a while, to show she's understanding. When he's finished, she gives a quiet, thoughtful "Hm," and crosses her arms.]

Yeah. I got one of those messages, that's why I came to see what's happened since then.

So what are you gonna do when you find this thing? How do you stop it?

[One look at the Doctor and Jamie's already made up his own mind on what he wants to do, despite knowing very little of what's going on.]

Aye. So what's the plan, then?

[grip_on_reality]

[she snorts] He's a fan of yours?

[she is certainly down-to-business, so she jumps right in] Right, well, basically people 'ave been disappearing--from all our worlds. Without a trace. Only, the first group that went turned back up again--and not in the same state of health as the one they left in. They were short a hand; forensics said it was done by some large tooth. More people went missing after that, ages ago, and no new developments since.

Have you met Grey in the shop before?

[ooc: this one might help, too. But I'm happy to answer IC questions!]

You know, I didn't think of that! [sorry, Mu, but stating the obvious deserves sarcasm in her book]

Are you up to speed on all of it? [figuring he wouldn't be on the newest information, she adds:] And did I ever tell you Grey's story--about Sammy and Charlie?

What, Ray knew about it? [this is news to her as he was rather insistent that he didn't]

[she quirks her lip at that but doesn't comment] Hard to say. But it was after the Doctor brought up his friend that's missing--Marcellius. Looks like he was special, too, so it's a fair bet this creature's got something to do with it.

Trouble is, Grey didn't tell us anything about the creature. Just that we'd need more than the two of us to go up against it.

So... that boy, Conan. He wasn't just making things up to get my attention?

Interesting...

He said people in our worlds were dying as well. But other than being from our own worlds - there was no apparent connection. At least not one that he could tell.

But you seem the type who might know or understand more.

[He'll come back to Grey.]

Not Grey in general, somethin' else. There was a key one of the hosts had that went missing a while back. I'm supposed to eventually meet with the guy so I can ask more about it. It's to a room. I was warned there might be a risk of eating.

But really- [He gestures vaguely.] -you sure Charlie isn't the snake, too?
