[the loud crack of a bullet echoes from the coliseum, the sounds coming in groups of four before there's a break and the sound resumes. if anyone is nearby, they'll see signs and caution tape thrown up around the various entrances warning them not to come in that way. there is, however, one entrance in the south (or what seemed like the south) is still open. tacked to a pillar is a handwritten sign in block lettering that simply reads, "Interested in some sparring or target practice? Come on up!"]

[head into the coliseum itself and in the main arena, and one will see a few sets of pugil sticks leaning against one wall next to a simple metal table covered with various guns (pistols, battle rifles, and another sniper rifle) and several spare clips of ammo separated into two piles. in the middle of the grounds and scattered around the stands are various bottles of liquor--and in some cases, the shattered remains of said liquor bottles. and at the very, very top of the coliseum, situated at the top-most southern point of the coliseum is North.]

[as always, he's in his full suit of body armor and is lying down flat on top of the old stones, sniper rifle aimed at one of the many bottles he'd set up earlier, his motion tracker switched on so he can see any movement going on down below. which he does, so he quietly stands, stretches, and then jumps down from his perch, ready to greet whomever is coming to visit.]

[ooc: Hey, as North's sign says, if anyone's up for some sparring, training, or target practice with North, this is the place! He's up for any kind of sparring and has a few training weapons at the ready. (Though the live ammo is only for the target practice.) As a note, the pugil sticks can give off a small amount of electricity, but we can turn that off. There is also a special paintball scenario training that the Freelancer agents undergo, an example which can be seen here, but that particular paintball might hurt a little more than your typical one. So! Even if he hasn't met your character yet, what's a faster way of bonding than a good ol' sparring session?]

[Riku smiles a bit in response, and shrugs a shoulder.]

Yeah, I don't see why not. [He's clearly amused.] Though I'm going to guess there's more to these than just weighted ends.

Good eye! Let me show you. [quickly joins Riku, depositing his rifle down on the table with care. then he walks over to the pugil sticks, giving it a couple twirls before he smacks one end of it into the arena wall, sparks flying for just that moment] Now that...is what we use as part of our normal training regiment. The suit absorbs most of it but trust me, it still stings--and never mind the force of the initial blow.

But luckily, it can be shut off. [plants one end of the stick on the ground, lightly leaning against it] So what do you say? Still want to give it a shot?

[Okay. Now he's really, really interested. That might be an excited little spark in his eyes as his smile grows a bit.]

Yeah. I think I do. It's not how I usually fight, so this should be interesting.

[In fact, he's taking off his sunglasses and putting them down on the table. He's not about to risk those getting shattered. He squints heavily when the light hits his eyes, and quickly reaches into his coat for that blindfold to put on instead.]

No, huh? Well, we'll start off easy until you get used to it.

[he does wonder about the sunglasses--but seeing that reaction, it does make him very curious] You know, if you hadn't just told me you weren't used to this style of fighting, I'd almost think you were getting a little cocky with that blindfold. Do you have some kind of light sensitivity?

[He wants to protest, but... tech that's clearly ahead of his own world? Opponent in heavy, full-body armor? Okay, fine, he'll slow it down.] Alright. It shouldn't take too long, anyway.

[He finishes with his blindfold and reaches for a stick of his own when North mentions the light sensitivity, and it makes him hesitate, for a fraction of a second. But he recovers quickly, grabs up the weapon, and begins tossing it between his hands to get a feel for the weight. He even chuckles at the "cocky" bit.]

Yeah, actually. Dayblindness. I spent too long away from the light, I guess I'm not used to it anymore. [Along with some other things we'll just conveniently not mention, okay.] Some people might still call me cocky. [Faint smirk~] It just wouldn't have anything to do with the blindfold.

[he nods, keeping that in mind] Hah, I see.

[he gives the pugil stick a couple showy twirls around his body before going back into a ready stance.] Show me what you've got. I'll even give you first move.

[Shrug~] Sure.

[He hefts the stick one more time for himself, then grips it with both hands... and runs at North. His first move isn't impressive, except for maybe the speed at which he approaches. The swing is a wide one, horizontal, mid-level and coming from North's left.]

[even with the increased speed, that move is still very obvious to North. he easily blocks it, then swivels the end of the stick so it catches behind Riku's knee in hopes of sending the young man to the ground]

[Riku’s not used to using the stick, but he’s certainly used to dodging... pretty much everything. He jumps over the blow, careful not to create any more distance between the two of them, and swings again - vertical this time, rising while he straightens up after his landing.

So maybe using a weapon this long is going to take a little more to get used to than he thought...]

[North swivels the top end of the stick forward to catch Riku's vertical swing then deflects it to Riku's right before he quickly steps closer and swings the bottom end of the stick up to strike Riku in the stomach. nothing too hard, though.]

[Ow. He stumbles, but tries to recover as gracefully as possible. He keeps low, for now, and sweeps the stick at North's legs. Regardless of whether that hits the first time or not, he's also sweeping it back the other way.]

[he easily jumps it the first time, but the swing back almost catches him. his feet barely have time to leave the ground before the pugil stick swings in the air where his feet had been. while he does that, though, North swings his own stick back around to strike Riku on the back/shoulder.]

[The blow pushes Riku forward, and he rolls with it. When he kicks off of the ground to stand back up, he swings his stick upward, hoping to catch North in the arm with one end of it. (Someone's still not used to having two ends to work with, clearly...)]
