05 ↔ Shock

[Riku looks like he's seen better days. He may be fine physically (as far as anyone can see), but he's carrying himself oddly - like the weight of the world is on his shoulders, but at the same time, he's... learned things. Freeing things. Still, even before his little trip to the back of the shop, there was...

... something he refuses to think about. For now. He has a job to do first. Angst later.

He walks around the Plane with his blindfold on and the hood of his robe pushed back. Specifically, he's looking for Menzies, and he's carrying a ripe, delicious looking apple to give to her. If he's staring at it, it's only to keep his mind from wandering too far.]

You probably know what I do, especially after talking with Menzies.

[He hesitates, thinks for a moment... then nods.] Yeah. I guess you could put it that way. [He shrugs a shoulder.] There are a lot of things I need to do. I don't have time to let this place get in my way.

Ha, I guess so! She's good at her job -- lucky we have her on our side.

[Conan hesitates.]

Do you think that's an option? With how ... big and deep this place is ...

She is. [That gets him to smile.] And we are, yeah.

If it comes to it, I'll have to make it an option. [He seems very determined.]

Wouldn't it be better to make solving this place the first priority? Since it clearly effects what happens in our worlds ...

Well then, what would you do if it turned out that this place has no real solution? [Which is one of the possibilities he's beginning to lean toward, as much as he doesn't consciously want to admit it.]

[That surprises him.] ... Good answer.

We've got a long way to go before it's anything but a good answer -- but I'm determined. I don't want any one else from my world to die.

[His expression goes a little dark, but only for a split second before he forces himself back to neutral.]

Yeah. Neither do I.

No news?

[darkercalling]

[He shakes his head.]

No. What about you?

No new developments at all. Police are doing their best to turn up clues but finding nothing ... and then things got weird here, with the candy.

Weird is a good word for it. [Brief, tiny smirk] But it's almost over. Now that we know the items in the back of the shop really work...

Who do we know of that's been cured then?

Do you know someone who has already tried? [He shrugs] I admit, I'm mostly guessing it will really work. Based on what happened in the shop... even the people who run this place wouldn't let it be for nothing.

[Conan's thoughtful. He simply doesn't know enough about their captors to know if Riku's logic holds true or not -- and they likely won't know until they try it.]
