† you don't have a clue
[Kratos looks unhappier than usual as he steps onto the Plane. It's been a while, but he's only disoriented for a moment. He runs a hand through his hair, sighs, and walks briskly toward the forest.]
... My job should not be this difficult.
[He can only hope he isn't being followed by the brat he's trying to avoid.]
[ooc: Tiny canonbump to inside the Temple of Martel. Kratos finally got Lloyd's name, and also scared off Botta. :D And he's pretending to be level 5 or whatever.]

... You!
[DAMMIT. He came here to get AWAY from Kratos, not run into him again!]
no subject
... But it's so hard not to. His eyes narrow behind his bangs.]
Is this important?
no subject
Dammit. He glares before he turns his head away.]
Like I'd ever go to you for anything important.
no subject
Then I see no reason to waste my time.
[He sidesteps Lloyd and continues toward the forest, swallow-tailed cape trailing behind him.]
no subject
all 35 of them. He clenches his fists, and then he whirls around to yell after Kratos, his own gaze one of fire.]Wait a minute! What makes you think you're good enough to protect Colette?! Just because you helped us back there...!
[Why did he do that, anyway? That blow was for Lloyd, and Kratos...
And he saw his back, shadowed against the sun, and for a second he didn't even think that it was Kratos and yet that back was so familiar -
Ugh.]
no subject
I am a mercenary. It's my job.
[Kratos actually seems irritated now. Lloyd is basically whining at him for no reason, and he's had enough of staring at this kid because he just-- he has the worst feeling. About all of this.]
You will never be strong enough to protect anyone if you blame others for your own weakness.
no subject
His shoulders go taut, and he takes a step forward. If it weren't for the fact that this guy was in charge of protecting Colette, Lloyd would punch him right now. But he knows he can't. He's only "tagging along".]
How would you know what kind of weaknesses I have?! You don't even know me!
[And he's not weak. He's not. He's the one everyone looks to when they need help with a physical task - he's the strongest. There's nothing weak about him.]
no subject
I know that I do not want to.
no subject
But he lets it bounce off of him as best as he can, and instead he shrugs his shoulders a little too forcefully and shuts his eyes. He does not turn his back.]
What a coincidence, because I don't want to know you either!
no subject
It sounds like the child needs a nap.
no subject
I'm seventeen! I'm not a child! [Though he could certainly use a nap, if it meant dreaming and getting away from this person.]
no subject
[Fuck fuck fuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuckmotherfuck. There's no way. There's no way this kid is who Kratos thinks—hopes—dreads he is.
He exhales slowly. His ungloved fingers rub his temple. His retort is suspiciously delayed.]
You aren't even done with school yet.
no subject
The statement, however, makes Lloyd bunch his shoulders slightly and look away.]
... So what?! I'm almost done! [Even though Raine only does so out of pity and wanting him to get out of her class already...]
no subject
That doesn't matter. Your behavior still leaves much to be desired. You're fortunate to be able to do anything with that kind of attitude.
[It's like a knee-jerk instinct to keep on lecturing the teen. But if he really... no, he needs more proof. He needs to know for sure. He can work on that after they finish going through the temple.]
no subject
[Never mind that Kratos keeps KILL STEALING HIM. BITCH.]
no subject
[Still with his back to Lloyd, too. Douche.]
no subject
[He hates being called weak. Hates it, and he wants to prove to whoever calls him such that he's stronger than they think.]
... I'm not weak.
no subject
[Kratos finally faces him, one hand on his sword. His tone is faintly exasperated.]
After the Chosen has received the oracle, go home. This is not your fight. It is not your journey. Your place is with your [the barest hesitation] family and your village.
You refuse to acknowledge the truth. That also makes you weak.
no subject
But they weren't here, and it was just him and Kratos. This is probably just what he needs.]
Not my fight? We had to fight a bunch of Desians who wanted to kill Colette! We watched a priest die right in front of our eyes! And you're going to stand there and tell me this isn't my fight anymore?!
no subject
That incident was unfortunate, but it changes nothing.
[His eyes narrow slightly.]
It was never your fight in the first place.
no subject
It is now. And you can't tell me otherwise.
no subject
Then this conversation is over. I refuse to waste any more words on a petulant child.
no subject
Stop calling me a child! And I couldn't care less if you want to keep talking to me or not!
[... Maybe he should ask what "petulant" means. But maybe not. Then Kratos would think he's stupid on top of being a child.]
no subject
He's too old for this shit.]
no subject
Stupid.]
