[Misaki appears on the plane in casual clothes. With an entire batting-cage setup in tow. Complete with nets, pitching machines, buckets of balls, and racks on racks of beat up bats. She goes around for a few minutes making sure everything still works, even without anything to plug it into. Which it does. Of course. Then she switches one of the pitching machines on high and starts cracking balls into the net, one after the other, with Totally Unnecessary Ferocity.]



[[Right after this, so naturally she is in a VERY VERY bad mood. Hence the stealing of her favorite batting cages.]

[She takes another crack at the balls and then waits, poised, for the next one, but the machine just goes on humming. She scowls, sets the bat aside, and goes for another bucket.]

Nothing. What they keep me from doing is cracking every head from here to my apartment.

[Ironically enough, she thinks he's probably one of the people here who would understand best.] Serial killer. Likes kids.

[She starts the machine back up and resumes her stance.]

[he does, far too well. on both counts. and so he sits quietly, staring into the distance] Had a bloke like that once, went about kidnapping girls, making 'em do all sorts of things for him before raping 'em and leaving 'em dead in the canal. Got his jollies from it. Finally caught him bragging about his latest girlie to a mate one night while getting pissed. [grunts] Had to keep my boys from tearing the bastard limb from limb.

[Her lip curls, and she crushes the next ball into the net.]

It wouldn't be so hard to take if we were getting somewhere.

The waiting was the worst part. Took us six months to find the bastard. [leans back, watching her] No solid leads then, I take it?

[She pauses to lean on the bat, letting a few pitches go by.] Nothing. Inconsistent eyewitness testimony, poor neighborhood surveillance, only enough traces of evidence for us to know it's all the same person.

[Disgusted face.] No. His first victim was a kid he snatched going home from cram school. Second was a homeless woman's daughter. Third one from a rich neighborhood. Haven't been able to ID the fourth.

[nods] You increased security throughout the city and posted notices identifying the victim demographics? Keep the kids from wandering alone?

[Nod.] Of course. We have twenty-four hour... electronic surveillance on most of the city. Uniforms at the schools and high-density family areas. Everyone we can spare. [Closes her eyes for a second, then goes back to batting, though more calmly this time.] We'll see if that deters him at all.
