❝...to see what would happen when one who could not use the Seventh Fonon tried.❞

[Walking across the Plane, Jade stops in his tracks. He is completely still for a moment, and then he pulls off his left glove. He calls his spear into form in his right hand, then cuts his left palm open.]

[Black blood pools as Jade dissolves his spear back into his arm. He waits for a moment, then lifts his right hand once more. White glyphs appear, and when he calls a little water forth to wash away the blood, there is no injury. He just tried to use the Seventh Fonon to heal himself, and it worked.]

What a terrible sense of humour.

[And this is going to interrupt his work. How troublesome.]

You aren't at all! 1/2

[A passing blond stops, blinks, looks around as if there could be any other Guy that Jade might be talking to, and then points to himself as if to make sure.]

Do I have to?

[But he sighs and trots over obediently, looking at Aster with a smile of recognition.] Hey Aster! Okay, what have we got... [It takes him about two seconds to be in front of the machine's display, scooting over to give Aster a good view of what he's doing as he does it.]

...Alright. To work the machine you put the samples here. [He demonstrates.] Enter the weight in grams, and then this window here is for observational notes and the like.

[Guy scoots over so Aster can get a better look.] The element you're looking for is input as this frequency [A sound frequency corresponding to middle C on the scale] so if the machine finds that it'll read out the data here. When you're inputting the frequency number you have to be precise, the vibrations are calibrated exactly. If there's no reading, the sample probably doesn't have it, but you can run these tests... [He pulls up another screen, making sure Aster can see.] To verify. If there's an error in any of them, it's probably best to do it all again in case of an input error earlier.

Once the tests are over, save the results like so, and move on to the next sample. It's a little time consuming, but that's it.

[Boring. Boring. Boring labwork. But that's how the machine operates!] Any questions?

[While Guy explains, Aster is staring at everything with a ridiculous amount of excitement. It's easy for him to understand how the machine works and he can barely wait to start messing around with it. Time consuming? No, just Aster consuming. As in he will be consumed by this for the next however long.]

This is incredible! No, I have none. You did an excellent job showing me how this machine works. Thank you Guy.

Sure thing.

[Guy can recognize the gleam in Aster's eyes, he's sure he gets like that himself. And as interested as he is in Jade's research, he was headed somewhere else.]

[He'll ask one of them about the findings later. He shrugs and steps back, giving Jade a mildly long-suffering look. The man looks way too happy for Guy to find this comforting.]

Have fun you two. [He's turning away, to leave them to their devices once again.]

[Have fun he says. Aster will do just that. This is like every holiday rolled up into one. He waves at Guy as he walks away. It's nice that people just appear on the plane like that.]

Thank you. We'll try.

[He turns back to Jade with a big smile.]

Great. I'll be sure to let you know the results.
