[Walking across the Plane, Jade stops in his tracks. He is completely still for a moment, and then he pulls off his left glove. He calls his spear into form in his right hand, then cuts his left palm open.]

[Black blood pools as Jade dissolves his spear back into his arm. He waits for a moment, then lifts his right hand once more. White glyphs appear, and when he calls a little water forth to wash away the blood, there is no injury. He just tried to use the Seventh Fonon to heal himself, and it worked.]

What a terrible sense of humour.

[And this is going to interrupt his work. How troublesome.]

Indeed I'm not. [Hands in his pockets, this is no big deal. Except it is.] But apparently, I'm an acceptable test subject.

I intend on looking into that immediately. [Road trip with Guy to Belkend to check for mutations, it's a party!] It seems the hosts of this experiment are interested to see what will happen when one who cannot use the Seventh Fonon is made capable.

Please get yourself checked for fonon mutation as soon as possible. I don't want to think about you of all people going insane from fonic rejection. [largely because taking you down if you turn into a crazy fonic monster would be quite difficult]

[There are so many terrible jokes that he can't make because she is from his relative past. He did not foresee this as one of the reasons this entire scenario is annoying, but now he decides that it is frustrating as hell.] I'm sure I could find a few people who won't object to putting me down for the greater good. [It is only preparation that lets him wear a mask of blankness. But he does. He can lie well. When the stakes are high, he has no choice but to lie well. And he has to remind himself: he is not allowing ten thousand people to die. Ten thousand people are already dead. Tear may choose another history, but he cannot dictate it to her.]

[So he wears a face that doesn't know what horrible things lie ahead of them all. 'Sometimes I envy you.' Of course.]

Enjoy the walk. And try not to let Luke get eaten by any monsters, as tempting as it might be. He is the Ambassador.

I'm quite aware of his position, thank you Colonel Curtiss. [She bites back the urge to comment on how often Luke reminds them of this fact - after all, he's already been through it. He knows.] It won't be much longer, now. There isn't time to relax.

[Oh, does he know. It felt to him like the greatest heights Luke achieved in being the sort of person Jade would only endure out of necessity.

Indeed there's not. But the Astral Plane does provide a temporary respite from that.
