[there is a new building on the Plane! or, rather, a room--from the TARDIS, to be exact. Oliver has propped its door open with an oddly-shaped metal canister, allowing the Plane's residents to see that the room basically consists of an outside ledge around a giant ball pit. yes, a ball pit--filled to the brim with shiny, multicolored, hollow plastic balls]

[Oliver is standing in the doorway of the room, looking nervous but hopeful, and holding a gun] I figured we could use a break after, you know, everything. And I... [his expression slips slightly, but only for an instant] Well. I want everybody to have a chance for some fun. I wasn't sure I'd be able to get it all here, but it worked!

And this might make things even more interesting. Watch! [grinning, he turns to face into the room. first, he fires the gun at the ceiling, creating an oval outlined in blue. then he fires again, into the corner of the pit this time. anyone watching can now just see the edges of an orange oval in the pit. there are now two ovals rather like these. the balls around the orange one are pouring into it--only to reappear falling out of the blue hole in the ceiling. this is creating a sort of ball waterfall, which due to momentum is causing lots of flying balls as well. a few even go rolling out the doorway]

That... has got to be one of the most awesome things I have ever seen. Ever. [He laughs, grinning fit to split his face in half.] How th'ell did you even do that?!

[Marta's seen the ball pit, but she hasn't seen the portal gun. Or the endless waterfall of spheres. So after a moment of watching said waterfall in awe, she turns her attention to Oliver and his portal gun.]

I told you it would be a great idea to share.

[breaks out in a grin when he sees who's there] Mu! Just the person I was hoping to see! I've got something for you.

[DISTRACTED BY THE BALL CASCADE] Hm? You do?

[oliverplus]

[grins back, thrilled to see someone's excited about it. he gestures with the gun] My friend Irving gave me this. It's a...erm..."quantum tunnelling device." I knew it'd come in useful for something!

[smiles, glad to see her positive reaction] Yeah. Thanks, Marta! You were right.

[She smiles at him a moment longer, then turns her attention to the portal gun.]

So, how does that work? Can people go through the holes, too?

Quantum... what? [He shakes his head.] Sounds like science. I'm not that great at science. But still, science is awesome if it means the best ball pits ever!

You said it's cool to jump in, right? So even if we get sucked in the thing, we'll be okay? Just come out the top? [He looks so ready to cannonball in there, man.]

[Nathan observes for a moment.]

Hey, I thought your Earth didn't have any technological shit that's actually interesting or cool.

Yeah! I mean, I owe you a birthday gift, after all.

[amused] Did you want to jump in first?

[oliverplus]

[laughs] It's not like I made it!

Yeah! I mean, you can go through the portals no problem. And uh... [looks up at the ceiling, considering] I think it's low enough you could do that. Sure!

[Oh, right]

...No, I think I will pass.

[oliverplus]

Yeah! You just shoot two holes, wherever you want. And when you go in one, you come out the other! [gestures at the ball cascade]

Nathan! [waves, glad to see him] I'm not on Earth right now. And I got the gun from Irving. Isn't it fantastic?

[SEMANTICS. Pfff. Like Nathan's going to remember Not Earth details.]

It's pretty cool. So, what, is it like some fucking teleporter thing? Like, a really... weird teleporter.

You didn't? Damn. I thought maybe I'd have a scientist friend.

[You can practically hear the gears in his head turning as he watches the flow... then he grins at Oliver and nods. After that, he takes off running and really does cannonball into the pit!]

Aww. All right. [because watching Mu dive in would have been hilarious]

Okay, then, just hold on a tick! [drops from the Plane, reappearing a moment later with a rectangular package covered in clown wrapping paper. it was all he could find] Here! Happy birthday!

Well, you could do! There are plenty around here.

[calls after him] Just don't loop more than once! [and then he just watches this feat of physics]

Irving called it a "quantum tunnelling device." It makes tunnels between places. Basically. ...I think.

[One of his browdots raise in questioning at the package, but he takes it and begins to gently unwrap it (trying not to rip the paper)]

Irving! [breaks out in a grin] This gun is fantastic! Look at that!

[pouts] It's not that fast! And that's why they're rolling in between.

[he hasn't really thought about the fact that they'll inevitably get progressively faster anyway. not yet, anyway]

[Nathan sort of just stares at it all falling over and over. Oh god this is almost like racing except with less circles. And no cars. Or explosions.]

I'm pretty sure that's... just... a weird teleporter, sorry, keep, uh, getting fucking distracted by watching that.

[He turns away so he gets less distracted by repeated falling down over and over and over and over...]

I totally don't see how it's tunneling. It's more like. Just making two teleport things and you can go back and forth through them instead of like fucking. You know those sorts of teleporters where it's all: oh hey, look, you totally just exploded into thousands of particles, effectively killing you, but it's all good look here's your teleported clone that has the same memories as you do and the same personality so it's pretty much the same fucking thing. Those are the worst. Blech. Why would anyone use those, honestly.

[nervous] I hope it helps! I mean...you're still looking for trainees from other countries, right?

[because Mu will be unwrapping phrasebooks for English, Japanese, and Spanish. they're all from the 24th century, but at least Oliver tried really hard to find good ones?]
