001 - A Bad Day For Everyone

[Misaki Kirihara appears on the plane looking very, very pissed. Her Sig P230 is unholstered and leveled at…

…no one.]

Tch.

[She lowers the weapon, very slightly, taking in her surroundings. Or rather, the lack thereof.]

Contractor!

[She turns in a slow circle, tension wrapped around her like a creaking spring.]

Contractor! Show yourself. You’re being stupid. Using your power on a member of the NPA will get you killed. It isn’t worth the laugh.

[A pause. She’s starting to get angry again.]

Show yourself!

[She looks up, down, around at the stars, and a pained expression crosses her face. Barely audible, she mutters,]

You people… know how to be cruel.

[gives her a somewhat amused smile]

Now that's really interesting. Funny, there's these Saints around here with stars for guardians. You might want to talk to them. But I was actually thinking something closer to Earth. Like you mentioned voice amplification. You could ask around the crime scene if someone heard a shout. [shrugs] It's messy and unreliable but it might get a lead.

[frowns] Wish I could see it. I could probably scan it and give you a mechanism to trace the source. You might be able to build one, still.

[and he looks curious at that] Ah, top secret and cover-ups and all that?

Hm...think you could get me a sample sometime? [fishes into his inner vest pocket and pulls out his sonic screwdriver] I could use this to track it if I were in your world but I might be able to build something with the same principles.

[nods slightly] Yeah, well, this sort of thing gets out eventually. In my younger days I was an adviser to UNIT about aliens. People more or less know about them now.

[nods distantly] Ah, well, if you manage to get some, you'll let me know? [he notes the dark look but passes over it for the moment]

Well, not everyone but...last Christmas there was this invasion and sometime after that the Daleks and Cybermen fought over the Earth. Bit hard to miss. Unless you're some people.

Yeeeah, they would, wouldn't they?

[pauses, then figures he's been honest so far, may as well continue]

The Cybermen...well, there's actually a long history to both of these. The Cybermen originally came from a planet called Mondas. The planet was dying out. So they came up with a solution. They converted their flesh bodies into cybernetic parts and removed their emotions to keep their sanity intact. From there, it became their only goal. They set out intending on converting the rest of the universe. [softly] "We will survive." It's...they would do anything. Ruled by logic. They did many forced conversions on people, replacing flesh for metal...

I stopped them loads of times. But in a parallel universe I met a group of Cybermen created by a man who was looking for immortality. They're all stopped now, as far as I know. There might be stasis tombs still around but they're dead. Gone from history in my universe and dead in the parallel one.

[pauses, considering what to say before continuing]

The Daleks were originally another race as well. They started from a scientist named Davros experimenting on cells from mutations of his race. There was a terrible, long war, you see, and they were all that was left. He designed them after his life support system. I... [getting to the uncomfortable part already] meddled, a bit. Not of my own choice. But they carried a grudge about it, against me and the other Time Lords. Their goal, unlike the Cybermen, was to wipe out everything. Very into purity. They'd wipe out everything that wasn't a Dalek. They were the ones we fought in that war. There's one left. I don't know where it is. But I know there's one.

[and then he suddenly laughs, shaking his head] I can't believe I'm saying all this. I suppose you're just...you're something, Misaki Kirihara.

[beams at her] You're quite welcome.
