[two individuals appear on the Astral Plane at generally the same time - and by appearances, at least how they're reacting to each other, they know one another

one is female, a fiery ginger dressed in a suit and the other, male, is a rather stoic looking military officer in dressed proper military garb

the woman looks like she's about ready to give someone a firm yelling at while the man simply glances around him]

She does the Doctor some good. She can be loud and opinionated - gives a right slap when angry enough - but she's not once let us down.

We managed to set it right. Everyone went back to their respective times and we went on our way. We're on a planet called Blackbird, now.

Ah, so another Tegan, then? [sniffs somewhat disdainfully] I do so hope she's better about my treatment than Miss Jovanka was.

Blackbird, you say? I am unfamiliar with that particular planet.

Copper is more the type to fiddle about with you. Curious man, that. I believe he managed to flood an entire section of a hallway shortly after he was brought aboard.


It's named after a Beatles song. Whole planet is obsessed with them; thinks they're literally Gods of some sort.

[tightens her lips] Is that so? Let us hope I don't meet up with him myself, then.

[laughs] Is that so? Those four were certainly arrogant enough, if what the Doctor has told me is correct.

Nothing malicious, I would hope. I don't believe he intends any harm. He's... well, he's not used to being in any one place for a length of time. Travelling salesman.

It's absolutely bothersome. One sect is fighting with another, a third refuses to acknowledge a section of 'Beatles canon'... I never thought I'd be involved in battle planning over the Beatles.

Is that why the Doctor took him along, then? He's always enjoyed dragging people through the stars to show them what they've never had the chance to see before.

[quirks a brow ... and then can't help it and laughs]

Mr. Copper travelled space, so he says, but I think this is the closest he's ever actually had to 'home'. If his enthusiasm over being able to buy a table is any indication, he's either never had the money to do so or never had the opportunity.


[the Brig sighs a bit] I'm afraid the Doctor volunteered me for that duty.

[frowns faintly] I am not often considered 'home' by anyone save the Doctor. A mode of transport, certainly, but not 'home.'

[and she's smiling again because haha, poor Brig] Did he now? And what is he off doing whilst you work on your stratagems?

[he shrugs a bit] I don't claim to know how he thinks. He's odd, if anything.

[at least someone is amused by the situation] I've no idea. Knowing him, he's off causing some sort of trouble that I'll have to deal with.

I find most of my Doctor's companions tend to be the odd sort. I think he finds them on purpose. [a pause] Yourself excluded. You were always one of the more level-headed of his cohorts.

[she's happy to be!] Poor Brigadier. Always the voice of reason, aren't you?

[he smiles a bit] Someone must be.

So it would seem. I appreciate it, though. You've always kept him safe and I cannot thank you enough for that.

I do not doubt that. He often goes to such great lengths to protect his companions. Foolishly so, in fact. I sometimes find it ... difficult ... to accept those lengths, at times.

Understandable. The Doctor still disagrees with my methods at times; too military minded for his liking. For him, protecting his 'companions' is paramount. For myself, it's putting an end to threats by whatever means necessary.

I can agree, as well, to an extent, with the Doctor's logic. But he has taken the heavy-handed approach before, as well. Not with his companions, no, but with himself. With me. We are expendable should it save all others.

[he grins again] We're just doing our duty, even if it means we die in the process.

[makes a small noise, looking down, and nods faintly] That is all well and good, my dear Brig, if it's your own decision condemning you to death.

[he sobers] You care about him, don't you? If it were necessary, for whatever reason, that he was to die, would you rather him go alone? Perhaps it's not my place to speak of it - but I know he does care about you. I've seen enough in my time to say that.

[nods] I do, very much so. And no, I would not want him to be alone. His death is my own, after all, so if we must go, I'd wish it to be together. He does not deserve to be isolated at such a time. But ... he does not ask me, either. I know he cares for me, in his way, but he does not ask me if I wish to sacrifice myself for his ideals.

If it's possible, have you ever told him? The man has a way of being very bullheaded at times. He might not know your reservations.

Ah. I did, yes, but only recently. It had never occurred to me to say anything before then, and even then it was only because of ... extenuating circumstances.
