๑ sixth encounter

[It happens to be a certain blue-haired boy's birthday, which also happens to be why Chivy is standing on top of a cardboard box that he brought with him. He's holding a wrapped bundle and grinning ridiculously.]

Anyone want to help me sing Happy Birthday? He probably won't stay too long after we finish, but birthdays only come once a year, right?

[He may have asked, but he starts singing without waiting for much of an answer.]

Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday, dear prick-leee~ [He laughs for a moment before continuing] Happy birthday to you!

[Naminé watches the spectacle with a smile on her face, and when he's done singing, she claps for him.]

Do you have a birthday cake?

[He shakes his head, hopping down from the box.]

I was going to get something yesterday, but I forgot, and it's kind of too late now. Oh well...

[She just smiles again, holds up one finger, and then drops from the plane...

.... To return a moment later with a relatively good-sized cupcake, with a single candle stuck in the middle.]

I could only afford the one... but do you think he'll like it?

[Note: she does not yet realize who this birthday bash is for!]

Definitely! [He'd better, anyway. It's a cupcake. What isn't there to like?] That was really nice of you.

It's someone's birthday, I can't just not get him anything.

[She looks around slightly.] So... whose?

[ ... Well, this is kind of awkward. ]

[... That it is. Her smile drops for a moment.] Um...

[But she straightens herself up, takes a breath, and steps toward him. The smile she gives him this time is... somewhat apologetic, maybe a liiiiittle afraid, but entirely sincere. She holds the cupcake out to him.]

Happy birthday...

[Chivy mouths "be nice" at Sefton in an exaggerated fashion.]

[ Sefton gives Chivy an exasperated - nay, almost offended - look over Naminé's shoulder before turning to her properly. He hesitates with taking the cupcake for now. ]

[That's a little encouraging, at least! Her smile grows a little. She hands it over.]

Make a wish?

[He doesn't say "good going", but the attitude is there. Keep it up, prickly!]

Um... [ He's especially awkward about receiving the cupcake, and steps back once he has it. ] I don't— [ He frowns, a little, to himself. What would he possibly wish for? ]

Don't know what to wish for? [She shakes her head.] That's okay. It can be pretty hard to come up with something. Why not just wish for good luck?

[ ... Chivy, why.

No really, why? Sefton is standing off a good distance away and staring at Chivy in both embarrassment and confusion. ]

[Chivy heads over by Sefton, offering his wrapped parcel as a kind of apology. Kind of.]

I couldn't do that at home. [Which obviously means he had to do it here.] Happy birthday.

[polarization]

Why not? [ He kind of stares at the parcel, then takes it. Carefully. He's a little dumbfounded here. ] I... didn't think you'd remember.

Mm, well, drawing attention didn't seem like a good idea? And of course I remembered.

[polarization]

You didn't have to, y'know. [ He gently bobs the gift, unsure of what might be inside. ]

[lostandfinder]

[It's pretty cardboardy on the bottom, and very... well, clothes-like on the top.]

It's your birthday. I'd be a pretty bad friend if I didn't.

[polarization]

Wouldn't've been mad if you didn't.

[ He peels away the wrapping near the top, surprising nobody when he doesn't go into it with reckless abandon. ]

[He shrugs, more interested in seeing what Sefton thinks of the gift. Unwrapping it reveals... a pretty ugly scarf. But it's warm, at least?]

There's a card, too. [And were this anyone else, he would probably be reaching to pull the card out himself, but it's Sefton, so he has to be patient.] Because I know that's kind of a stupid gift, but I was having a hard time finding anything, so...

... s' kinda stupid, yeah. [ But not unappreciated. Who knows if he would actually use it for its intended purpose, but he'll figure something out. He does reach inside for the card, though, and flips it open after some juggling with the box. ]

[The card itself is just a pretty generic 'Happy Birthday!' card, but there's one little piece of paper tucked inside that reads:
"THIS COUPON GRANTS ITS HOLDER,
ONE SEFTON (AKA PRICKLY) LOWELL
THE ONE [1] USE ONLY PERMISSION TO TELL
CHIVASON DARRELL TO LEAVE
(OR LET SEFTON LOWELL LEAVE),
NO QUESTIONS ASKED

and then I won't follow you or
bug you on the Plane for 24 hrs" ]

[ Okay, he looks amused at this one. ] ... a get outta Chivy free card?

I guess, sure.

[polarization]

Just what I always wanted.

[lostandfinder]

Well, you're only getting one, so you better make sure you don't lose it.

[polarization]

If I do, you'll just find it for me, right?

Doesn't mean I'll give it back. [Except... he totally would. Likely just slip it into Sefton's bag and pretend it didn't get lost in the first place.]
