(no subject)

[Firesong has appropriated a table in a corner of the library. There's scribbled sheets of scribbled notes and diagrams in Firesong's own particular shorthand scattered all up and down it's length mixed with various book he's either pulled from the shelves or brought from home. At one end there's a pile of various things like small stones, several foot-long feathers, a small dagger and several small bits of jewelry that has been carefully separated from the rest of the disorganization of the table. Firesong himself is dressed in anusually sebdued fashion for him, wearing only simple black and silver robes with his hair tied back in a simple braid as he studies one of the books, a slight frown on his face.]
Setting the permanent shield will be the easy part. It's making it portable that will be the trouble, don't you agree Aya?
[He glances toward his firebird, who's perched on the back of a nearby chair. She just fluffs her feathers and turns away from him. He sighs.]
Fine, if you want to be that way I shall leave you alone.

[Kyouya has his notebook in hand, but he stops, surprised at first by Firesong's change in clothing. Because if he knows flamboyant people (and, alas, he does) he knows that they rarely dress in any way one might call 'sober.' The diagrams are interesting, too, and the items are even more interesting.]

I hope I'm not intruding?

The siderooms around here often have tea kettles and small snacks, if you haven't seen them yet.

Will you feel comfortable leaving your work here, or should I bring the food to you?

[identity profile] hostclubmommy.livejournal.com 2010-09-01 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I understand. A change of scenery can open up new pathways for the mind. [Kyouya opens the door to the sideroom for Firesong, the sort of automatic gesture developed from too much hosting.]

The club I belong to values the happiness of our guests above all else. Treating others with politeness and respect is a matter of course.

Tamaki is a very selfless person. The greatest happiness for him is another person's sincere smile.

[identity profile] hostclubmommy.livejournal.com 2010-09-06 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
It's always my pleasure to bring joy to our guests. [There is, in his smile, a deliberate measure of insincerity. Because it is expected for his smiles to be a little insincere, his handshakes to be a little faithless, his polite words to be a little threatening. Whether or not that is what he really is . . .]

Firesong, what has happened to your clothing? Were you at Church? I hope they didn't bore you awfully. [As he doesn't have Aloysius with him just presently, one hand is free of his walking stick for him to hold it out to Aya.] Did Aya not enjoy it?

[identity profile] fruitbrandy.livejournal.com 2010-08-29 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
[The added weight is a bit much for the Grievously Wounded Flyte, so Sebastian tries to settle into a chair without disturbing Aya in the process.] I imagine it's very unpleasant to get dust in one's feathers. Do you keep drinks in attics?

[identity profile] fruitbrandy.livejournal.com 2010-09-01 04:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, yes, I was in a terrible accident and the pain was excruciating but I'm quite all right now. [Sebastian says this without any sort of irony. Now, let's see if Aya will let him pet her . . .] If you weren't looking for drinks, what were you looking for?

[identity profile] fruitbrandy.livejournal.com 2010-09-01 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
[This makes Sebastian happy, so he continues to do it.]

[The answer to Firesong's question - which Sebastian's wandering attention will forget to answer - is 'croquet accident.']

Has someone put a curse on you?

[One assumes there must have been a logical path that led Sebastian to this question. What that path was, however . . .]

[identity profile] fruitbrandy.livejournal.com 2010-09-02 09:19 pm (UTC)(link)
[Sebastian obliges, because owning a baby lion does teach one something about how to pay attention to animal body language.]

You must be very good. What sort of puzzle is it?

[identity profile] fruitbrandy.livejournal.com 2010-09-04 05:19 am (UTC)(link)
[Sebastian loves new best friends!!]

Oh, you want a charm for someone who can't do magic. [It wasn't immediately clear to him.] That would be useful. There are a lot of people here with magic, aren't there?

[identity profile] fruitbrandy.livejournal.com 2010-09-05 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
[Somehow, he manages to talk about all of this whimsically, but there's something not quite right in his tone, something that betrays that he isn't as easy and careless about this as he is about picking out wines and abandoning lectures.] It might not just be the people here. There was what was in that Oriental resort. I think there's more to worry about than other people. Aloysius didn't at all like the rain we just had.

[with a light smile] Can you make it look pretty?

[identity profile] fruitbrandy.livejournal.com 2010-09-11 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
I never thought of it that way. Though I suppose it would be bad luck for anyone with poor taste. It would be very sad if someone were to be hurt because they aren't very good with accessories. I think half of Oxford would suffer if that were the case.

[identity profile] fruitbrandy.livejournal.com 2010-09-11 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
[Sebastian laughs at that.] That's very kind of you, Firesong. [And then the curiosity takes over again] How many are you going to make?

[identity profile] fruitbrandy.livejournal.com 2010-09-14 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
Do you know how many mages there are here?

[identity profile] fruitbrandy.livejournal.com 2010-09-14 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I wonder if they have magic like yours. I don't really see how it could be a bad thing to do, though I suppose it's meant to be from the devil, but of course it mustn't be because it's such a lovely thing. Could the mages here help you?

[identity profile] fruitbrandy.livejournal.com 2010-09-19 07:33 pm (UTC)(link)
You must show me what you learn. We only have faith where I'm from, and it's rather dull not getting to see anything magical for oneself.
