[Sam Tyler is not daft. Really. Even if he appears on the plane holding a paper out, as if expecting it to disappear. He sets the paper down, staring at it intently, before vanishing off the plane and reappearing to check if it’s still there. It is, and everyone can see it. Next, he tries this with a particularly ugly lamp which (if the clothing doesn’t give it away) certainly tells you exactly which era Sam is stuck in. When he experiments on this with his beloved television, he drags it back home immediately rather than risk losing it. Then he brings along a chair and a radio. He sits on the former, hand over mouth, thinking for a moment. He fiddles with the radio, but only gets the sound of machinery under very fuzzy reception. Finally, he appears empty handed, fingers curled as if he was holding someone’s wrist. Chris, apparently, cannot be dragged onto the astral plane]

Hm.

[Sam immediately flips out his notepad and starts writing things down]

Seriously. But how do you get work done?

Well, we've said that he's gone away for a bit and put me in as acting DCI. Super's not happy 'bout that, but the Guv said - [some very choice words that Sam won't share with Fumie] that it doesn't matter. The team's loyal to the Guv. If the Guv says I'm DCI in his stead, that's what I am. [tips head back] Don't know what he's doing about my disappearance, though.

That's so weird...but you guys can see each other? So basically you have two sets of friends? Are you worried?

[when isn't Sam Tyler worried? sighs a little] Yeah, I am. But what do I tell Gene? He'll insult me and then say, [mimicking Gene's voice - not very well, mind you, but he pulls off that arrogant tone well enough] "trust the Gene Genie" [looks at her] Two of everyone but me and Gene, it seems. ... Don't know if I could handle two Genes.

[grins slightly] That sounded like him! Way too much like him. And I definitely wouldn't want two of them. But don't worry. I'm sure you'll figure it out. You're a detective.
