[Kyouya is trying to work, sitting on a couch near the ballroom.]

[Status report:

-Headphones: around the neck, chiming out performances by Martha Argerich, Idil Biret, and Arthur Rubinstein.
-Notebook: in hand, being written in.
-Pile of broken pens: rather large and to the left.
-Pen in hand: just now snapping under the pressure of his thumb.]

[Kyouya sighs and puts the broken pen in the pile.] Meritless. [It is a word that means the same to him as violent curses mean to others.]

[Blindly, he reaches out to the right for a new pen. He grabs nothing.]

[His eyes narrow on the empty space where new pens should be. From the look on his face, it would not be ridiculous to infer that every pen manufacturer in Japan will be exiled from the country if a new pen does not miraculously appear in his hands within the next minute.]

[He is very lucky indeed. For some reason, this conversation feels so painful. He has to change it if he is to keep acting fine.] Absolute. Though, I have a small inquiry, if you don't mind. Your world has magic, doesn't it?

[Firesong looks thoughtful for a moment.] I believe there are, but it's not a type of magic I myself am familiar with. I take it you're considering bringing such an object to your own world?

Or to the Plane. It has occurred to me that people like myself and my companions have very little to protect us in times of trouble.

I can see why that could be concerning. Finding a way to shield those without gifts will be a challenge, however.

[Kyouya nods, becoming more serious.] Some here have the benefit of protective technology, but the science of our world has yet to develop so far. And it doesn't seem wise to seek protection from the twins.

I doubt I could bring myself to trust those two either. [Bah, science talk. He does not like such things. Magic is much better.] I shall see if I can come up with something. It will be a challenge I have not yet faced and besides...it would not reflect well on the Tayledras if their most innovative mage cannot solve such a simple problem.
