[Damon arrives on the Plane looking a little frazzled -- and not just because he hasn't slept since before the deathmatches started] Will someone please explain why my fellow technicians and I are floating around in a simulated version of the Matrix? If I don't find a solution quickly, I have the feeling Commander Maxil is going to arrest me the moment he steps into the room.

Of course, he'll have a difficult time catching us, considering the lack of gravity, but I'm certain he would have no trouble at all turning the computer room into a prison cell.

You must be mistaken. You cannot be in the Matrix.

I know it's impossible, that's why it must be some sort of simulation. But I don't understand how it happened.

[have a frustrated sigh, TARDIS. and then;] The Doctor is alive, by the way. I kept my promise.

[Because that's not worrying at all. 'sup Damon, female Doctor carrying a squirmy little border collie puppy drops by.]

What are you talking about, Damon?

[Damon eyes the fluffy thing warily] Either someone's playing a very elaborate prank, or something very odd is going on with the Matrix.

The Machine, you suppose?

I did not harbour the idea of any other possible outcome.

[THE FLUFFY THING LOOOOOVES YOU, DAMON. Because at the moment, 'love' is the default for anything new and interesting.]

When did it start?

Do you think it's possible? I suppose it can affect our realities already with merging universes, but I don't think that is what's happening here...

[awkwardly] Good, I'm glad.

Then what might it be if not that?

I don't think I've been here long enough to know what the Machine is fully capable of doing. But if it isn't the Machine, the only explanation I can think of is an elaborate prank, or something is very wrong with the Matrix.

[shakes his head] Of course not. My death was my choice, not his.

[Sadly, they are sorely lacking in fluffy things on Gallifrey. Unless you count Damon's hair...so he's not sure what to do with it. :|b] I went back after we lifted the barrier and it was like this -- I'm sorry, but what are you holding?

[YOU PET IT AND LOVE IT AND KEEP IT FOREVER. Or at least, that is the Doctor's plan. Sort of. She doesn't really know that it's her plan yet.]

A puppy. A border collie, I think - I may be wrong about that, the breeds aren't my specialty.

[nods thoughtfully] Did you find it on Earth? Or was it wandering around here?

It... hatched from an egg, actually.

[...Damon might not know a lot about dogs, but he knows that's wrong] That's impossible. Where did you find the egg?

It came from the Twins. They said it washed up on the Machine, and were... offering them to us. I hadn't meant to take one, but after I picked it up, he hatched.

I know of no such ability to tamper with the Matrix, nor do I have any data on such inconsistencies within the Matrix itself.

How did it happen?

...Of course you don't. I wonder if anyone else might -- Coordinator Narvin or Cardinal Braxiatel, perhaps?

My death? I...I tried to take my life with a staser, but he kicked it out of my hand. I tried to reason with him, but he wouldn't listen...he attempted to take his own life instead, but I got in the way.

It is worth asking, I suppose.

[she does not like this information!] In what way?

[Here is a Jamie, who would normally have been happy to see Damon since he hadn't had a chance to talk after the attack on the barrier. There's a small drawback, though, as he doesn't know what the Matrix is. So instead he's just mightily confused.]

"Washed up?" That's odd terminology, isn't it?

...No, I suppose the Doctor wouldn't have explained the Matrix to you. Essentially, it stores information -- not only about the past, but it can be used to predict the future. It also stores the minds of Time Lords who have died, as well as the bio-data of all Time Lords. Extracting that bio-data is an act of treason.

The inside of the computer room looks like the inside of the Matrix, which is very dark. And the gravity has disappeared, making it extremely difficult to do our work.

So it's like...floating nothingness? What happened to everything in the room?
