[The Doctor looks a little lost in the woods, literally and figuratively. He's staring at his reflection in the stream, arms wrapped around his knees.

After a few long moments of brooding, he frowns, and starts pulling things out of his pockets. His sonic screwdriver, high-tech night vision binoculars, psychic paper, a banana --

he frowns at that one]

When did I put you in there? And what for? Who carries around a banana? Can't blame myself for liking them, they've got loads of potassium, but it's a bit random...why can't I remember?

[he slowly peels the banana and eats it, hoping it will spark something in his memories. Or lack thereof.]

Doctor?

[glances up at the TARDIS, still looking hopelessly lost] I've been told that's who I am, yes.

'Been told?' You do not remember?

[shakes his head] I remember you, though.

Who am I?

[simply] The TARDIS. We've been travelling together for a long time, ever since -- [he frowns, unable to remember how it started]

You remember me, but not yourself or where we are from?

No, I remember we're from Gallifrey. What I can't remember is why we left.

So you could save me and free yourself from Time Lord tyranny.

[wistfully] Sounds like I made the right choice, then. ...Could you tell me who I am? I know we travel the universe, and sometimes I've got companions, but...stuff is missing. Important stuff, I think.

You are the Doctor. [and that ... should explain everything]

[nods] I know that bit, but what does it mean?

It means you have chosen to help others. You wanted to right the universe. To save everyone.

...Ah. Makes sense, now. [he pats the ground next to him, gesturing for the TARDIS to sit] Wonder why they chose this experiment. If there was a reason, maybe.

[she sits, watching him quietly] Perhaps they are interested in seeing how memory affects Time Lords?

[he leans against her, frowning] Maybe. Or maybe they're trying to distract me from something. I dunno.

If that were the case, why not affect all of your selves?

[shrugs] Been wondering the same thing. 'Course, I've only seen my Tenth since it started.

He is unaffected?

Yep. He scanned my brain, both with the screwdriver and Contact. Said there was something in there he couldn't identify.

And you believe that something to be a block implanted by this place?

It's the only thing that makes sense, isn't it?

Logically, yes. But this place has proven to be illogical more often than not.
