(no subject)

[so have a Bernice Summerfield, newly arrived and looking around the place, rather unimpressed over all]

Right. So I believe this is the bit where I address whoever it is that may have brought me to...whatever this is here. While it's very flattering to get whisked away on an unexpected holiday to ... a very elaborate [spots a misplaced constellation] very inaccurate, very expansive variety of observatory, I would ask that you kindly instruct me on the how the hell to get out of this place.

[when there is still no answer, Benny falls back into that lovely habit of just talking to thin air]

Really, this isn't any desire to be rude. Normally I would probably love to have a go around this place. Don't think I didn't spot the Coliseum you have set up there as well as that early 20th century cinema. Top-notch, really. As it were though, I am just a bit busy at the moment. Things to do, people to see, all that nonsense.

[pause, and still nothing. Sigh. Benny is starting to feel just a tad irritable now, and it can be heard in her voice, which she is doing her best to keep casual and carefree]

And if the man behind the curtain here turns out to be Anson, well, I will have to hand it to you that you've definitely gone above and beyond what I normally expect of you. So now that this part is over with, you've done the entire disorienting the archaeologist bit, perhaps you could let me know which way to the exit.

[very softly, very quietly, holding two cups of tea]

I didn't expect you to notice the astrological errors. Well done, Bernice. Well done indeed.

[Despite having good reason to expect something like this, the hug makes him appropriately awkward. He tries to pat her on the back in a vaguely comforting way, balancing his tea all the while.]

Yes, Bernice. I'm not locked up with Philistine thugs. It does wonders for one's constitution.

[He sets his tea down across from hers.]

You should sit. We have a great deal to discuss.

[Hey look, it's one of Brax's people -- the sort that looks like the Doctor and sounds like a certain archaeologist's father. (Seriously, the narration's mind = blown.)]

As it is not intended to be an observatory, I doubt very much that the keepers of this place care for the accuracy of the stars.

If you like. I know I would be as paranoid and distrustful in your situation.

[He sits across from her, linking his fingers together, as he always does.]

To cut straight to the heart of it, you're at a meeting point between multiple universes. Multiple universes, multiple histories, multiple rules to the universes. And certainly it would be too much to ask that time lines remain synchronized. That's nothing new for us, but that's what this is. Nothing really new for us so far, I know, but I also know... when you are. In our history. I was simply lucky enough to be given access to this place a few weeks prior to the Occupation. More fortunate than I could have realized.

[With distance and with his focus on Benny, Braxiatel is able to keep control over his voice and his hands as his mind returns to the occupation.

[...Omega just stares for a moment, completely thrown. It's not every day that you get mistaken for someone's dad, of all things. But he recovers, straightening slightly and matching Bernice's suspicion with his own look of Time Lord superiority™. (Superiority is, of course, a Time Lord's default state.)]

Given the number of individuals in the universe, such a phenomena is not unusual. This is the Astral Plane.

[Remembering the Occupation brings out the edges of him, the bits that didn't break cleanly. He has been having bad dreams.] Because it is our history. What was the last thing that happened, Benny? When are you from in the Occupation?

[ (♥) archly;] You will find that the Plane very much favours improbable events. Among the residents, there are multiple versions of several individuals, individuals from altered timelines, and individuals who have long been dead. The Plane itself is an improbability, as it can withstand the paradox of several space-time events meeting themselves. An identical voice is nothing more than a minor coincidence.

[Braxiatel drinks from his tea and shuts his eyes.]

The Occupation never happened. The Fifth Axis never recovered from their defeat at 'the Glass Prison.' They never had a second rise, never destroyed so many lives on Ytaxia, Hulzarr Prime, the Solar Colonies... KS-159. That is what history demanded.

[He draws a brochure from his pocket and sets it on the table between them.] You can read that, when you're ready. I had Broderick write it up. He thought it was a joke on my part, something for his mental health. He's been recovering quite nicely, though. Not a time traveller, so the effects have been faint with him, but you know how it is. Time lines leave traces.

This place exists outside of time. There are some, from our world, who come from my relative future. I asked for their assistance and learned what I needed to know. Then, I corrected history. As is my duty.

[Omega somewhat surprised -- it honestly hadn't occurred to him that it might bother her, largely because Time Lords are idiots when it comes to other species. He frowns, but nods slowly and clears his throat, assuming the Doctor's voice with only a bit of distaste.]

I trust this is more acceptable?

I still have heard nothing, sob. ONE MORE DAY.

[Hello, Benny. Have a Doctor. Who is gaping. And completely at a loss for words. Well, sort of. Ish.] You have got to be kidding. Brax is gonna love this. [not that the Doctor doesn't, but that's beside the point]

[smiling] I doubt that would help to convince you that I am who I appear to be, would it, Bernice?
