[Firesong is seated in a corner of the bar, a large trunk open trunk at his feet and a small bottle of wine near at hand. Aya is perched on the open lid, peaking at one of the pieces of clothing scattered over, and around the immediate vicinity of the trunk. Anyone who comes close enough will notice that the clothes appear to be made of very expensive looking materials and are clearly toned down copies of Firesong's own elaborate robes. He picks up a garment out of the trunk and just shakes his head over it]
I suppose I must give them some credit for the effort itself, but it is beginning to appear as if no one in Valdemar has any true sense of fashion or color. If this is all they can come up with, I shouldn't be surprised that everything they wear appears to be a uniform of some type.

[Chivy can't really be too worried about what he wears, but those look nice enough to him.]

What's wrong with it?

[Gives Chivy a Look, as if what's wrong with it should be quite obvious] The colors are dull, since no one in this country seems to know how to get proper dyes, and they clothes devoid of artistry. At most they are a poor copy of something, with no thoughts or emotions put into their overall design.

They look really nice to me... You can really tell if somebody's put thought into a design?

Of course! These are simply copies, made, I assume, to appeal to those of the Court who have taken to copying the way I dress. Apparently it has become something of a fashion for them. The designs have no heart, no soul. In the case of something that someone has taken the time to design, like the case of Darkwind and his costumes, you can tell something of the person who made them just by looking at them.

I don't get to see a lot of handmade stuff, I guess. If it's a good copy, though, shouldn't it look the same as the first one did?

It is not a very good copy. The seamstress did not have access to my outfits and, as I have been told, my outfits are actually considered far to exotic for some members of the court. This is an attempt to make a copy everyone will approve of.

[Holy hell that looks expensive. There is now a sick-looking Isaac STARING at the clothes]

[Firesong at last notices him] May I help you?

Huh? Oh, no. I'm just looking...

Oh? You find them interesting?

I've...never seen anything like them.

I suppose they are fairly unique. Do you want one?

[UAAAAAH] N-no! I'd just ruin them, since I'm on the road a lot.

[That reaction amused him] Why so shy? Surely you will end up in situations where having a formal outfit could be to your advantage.

But they're so nice. I don't even think Ivan's adoptive parents wore clothes that nice. I'd just hate to see them so runied.

There are ways to keep clothes in good shape even when traveling and besides these...[he pauses and seems to consider something] Well, I suppose these would not be made with the same care that Tayledras garments are usually given. They are probably a bit less sturdy.

...Tayledras?

My people. A loose translation would be Hawkbrothers. We draw our name from our bondbirds, which are usually raptors of some sort.

[Looking at Aya] Like this one...?

[Firesong looks startled at then laughs, while Aya gives Isaac an almost insulted look] Aya? A bird of prey? Look at her beak and claws! Those are not the tools of a predator! No, she is a firebird, the only one to have prove able to form a bond with a person. [Is very proud of that fact]

O-oh. I'm not very good with Birds...

But surely you must have seen hawks or eagles in flight before. They have an entirely different shape than Aya does. A bird with a neck like she has would never been able to take prey effectively.

[Is very much amused right now] Is there something you wish to say?

It's just that most of the hunting birds I see are trying to maim me in some way. I don't really get a good look at them.

[That momentarily stuns him before he finds his voice again] What in the world were you doing to make them attack you? Birds don't usually go after humans!

Psynergy stones, probably. A lot of things out in the wild were corrupted by them, I think.

Psynergy stones? [Now Firesong leans forward a little] Just what exactly are those?

Uh, they're little rocks about this big ...[Gesturing with his hands a little larger than fist-sized]... and...I guess they've either absorbed a lot of Psynergy, or they're made of it...

[He silently put the garment he was holding back the trunk] Just what is exaclty is Psynergy? Is it magic?

I guess...It doesn't seem like magic to me, but a lot of people see it that way.

Then just what would you describe it as? Can you use it?

Psynergy is a part of Alchemy. It lets Adepts like me manipulate the elements.

[Very little attracts Sebastian quite like alcohol and ornate clothing] Imitations never are as nice. Still, I'd give them credit for trying. Not everyone can be born with impeccable good taste.

[Firesong very much likes Sebastian's taste] Truer words have never been spoken. There are a few in the Court that seem to have some sense of fashion but they are few and far between. Most have no sense of individual style and are content to live only for the current trend.

[Sebastian sits down beside him, putting Aloysius in his lap] That's true of courts everywhere. It's much more fun to have parties just with one's friends.

[Gives him a smile] Oh, Court can be amusing in it's own way. It's just not the sort of place you can truly expect to relax in. In have my ekele for that.

[idly playing with one of Aloysius's paws] I don't think I know that word.

Ekele is a Tayledras word so that is hardly surprising. It refers to the dwellings my people live in. Granted, the one I have on the palace grounds isn't a proper ekele but it serves.

What's a proper ekele, then?

One that is built in a tree. Unfortunately there are none in this part of Valdemar big enough for me to use.

A tree house? How exciting! They must require very large trees indeed. And very old ones, too. Old forests are lovely things, though I've always found aisling poetry quite dull. How big do the trees have to be?

Trees that are as big as a dozen of the trees I have seen in Valdemar put together. Most of them are very old, but we have discovered a way for strengthening and accelerating their growth. In the Vales, a single tree can hold multiple ekeles in it's branches.

Like cities in a forest? That must be very good for getting rid of all the awful smells of a city. Do you swing between the branches by ropes? I can't see it being very easy with what you wear.
