Turning, Turning...

[After an extended absence, someone has returned to the Plane. How much time has passed is difficult to say, and she seems hardly willing to provide any discernible clue. Her focus instead in on the fireplace that accompanied her.

And yes, for those that know at least part of her story, it is that fireplace. Still ornately carved and well cared for. Still with the clock standing guard above it. But now it has company.

Three delicately fashioned crystal vases now join it, all filled with water. Within them swim just over a dozen fish, all red and orange. They echo the fire that burns beneath. She turns one of the vases, and seems pleased.

What is says that crystal and water have been placed all along the surface of a fireplace that is meant to spin? You might ask. But there is no promise she will answer]

[he notes all this, although the significance of something so delicate being left on something that spins is lost on him for the time being]

Are they a new addition then?

[identity profile] handysparehand.livejournal.com 2010-03-06 05:41 am (UTC)(link)
Right. Of course.

[he watches her for a minute, not sure what to do with himself, and then he finally comes closer, to inspect the fish of course]

Have you given them names at all?

[identity profile] handysparehand.livejournal.com 2010-03-06 05:54 am (UTC)(link)
I think so. That's what people tend to do with pets. Besides that, it will probably make having them around a bit more enjoyable.

[identity profile] handysparehand.livejournal.com 2010-03-06 06:21 am (UTC)(link)
Well, it makes it all a bit more personal, don't you think?

[identity profile] handysparehand.livejournal.com 2010-03-06 06:31 am (UTC)(link)
What's wrong with being friendly with a fish?

[ah, being oblivious]

[identity profile] handysparehand.livejournal.com 2010-03-11 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
[a quiet pause, looking away a little awkwardly]

Oh. Right.

[another pause and then trying to brush over his faux pas, he smiles at her, still awkwardly, and then focuses back on the fish]

Right, well then, you do like them and you are going to keep them, so I still say at least name one or two. An S name might be good for [randomly points at one] him right there. Sebastian or Steve or something with an S.

[turns to look at her, and blinks, confused]

...but they're not my fish.

[anyway, that isn't a very fun game on his own]

It might be a bit soon anyway, maybe give them some more time to develop their personalities.

[he leans against the fireplace - or at least, gives the impression of leaning]

On the Coronet of Rassilon, the little... gems in it amplify telepathic signals. They've been called crystals before. It seems like there's something about crystals that draw out the psionic bits of the universe.

[he lifts his in reply] All. Or maybe none of them. What do you think, little queen?

[identity profile] savagestime.livejournal.com 2010-03-11 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe it is. But not to the exclusion of other reasons.

Madame de Pompadour? Are you all right?

[identity profile] shewalks-away.livejournal.com 2010-03-11 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
[a little startled, because she's still a bit intimidated by Reinette even if she does respect her (or maybe because she respects her)]

Oh, no, didn't mean it like that at all. Just...you seem all distracted and the like and I didn't want to intrude.

[lets out a breath she might have been holding unknowingly]

You got fish then, didn't think you seemed the sort for having pet gold fish and all that.
