[Axel's poking around at all the golden dust that's left over from exploding stars. He's dressed in casual clothes-- soft black shirt, pants, glasses, and a new book on fire magic he filched from Merlin. He also has an awesome pair of MAGIC CONVERSE sneakers and damn does he look like a cool kid with those on.]

I guess it's kind of pretty, but it's more like Tinker Bell just...

[SNEEZE]

... ugh. [He sticks his tongue out.] I think I just inhaled a galaxy. Medic! Medic! [OH GOD and it's all over his shirt. Eff his life, clearly.]

Well, every friend of his I've met... which... I guess that's not many, but-- all of them say it doesn't exist. That it can be explained by something scientific.

I mean, sure. I agree to a point. There's nothing magic about blowing something up with a bomb. But what about something like this?

[He summons a chakram out of nowhere-- it appears in a modest burst of fire, and there are still embers licking along the edges when he tosses it and catches it in the same hand.]

Think about it this way: ever seen a conjurer fight monsters?

Well, yeah, that's what he always says, but-

[but before he can explain any thoughts he might have about magic, he sees Axel summon that chakram and just...stares open-mouthed for a moment]

[Axel summons the other one, which matches, and they're both pretty big. If he wasn't so damn lanky--

-- wait, where did the book go?]

A trick I learned.

If you want a serious answer, though... it's all about the heart.

What do you mean? [curiously] You haven't got two, have you?

Absolutely. And these are real sharp, too.

[They disappear again in small, dissipating puffs of flame.]

-- Two hearts? I can barely deal with one!

Nah, it's strength of heart. People with strong, pure hearts have the most power, and it's up to them to destroy the monsters that keep springing up all over the place.

[frowns--every time something cool comes up, there always have to be monsters, don't there?] So that's what you do, then? Fight monsters?
