001~ If ever I did dream of such a matter

‘Sblood! [Hello Plane- I bet you all wanted a sudden swearing Emilia today, didn’t you?]

[…Well, unfortunately she’s just arrived anyway; and now she’ll just be looking rather stunned and just on the edge of panic- because seventeenth century boats do not usually suddenly become great big starry places. But luckily the faint panic only lasts a few seconds before she smoothes her great, big dress down and takes a huge gulp of air] Come now, there be no use in losing my senses; even if some Diablo hast bespelled my being to purgatory. I must keep my mind if bearing this strange indignity is proper.

[She pauses a second and then laces her hands together; lifting her head back to examine the stars] I must be bespelled to dream of this land; I can see the Lode-star before me but it is not tied to that place away from this dream. A truly strange land; t’would drive any who saw it to ravings of ecstasy. [A pause and then she lowers her head; a oddly sad expression on her face] …T’would drive most who saw it to ravings.

[She pauses for another few moments; her face slightly bitter- and then her shoulders lift in a sigh as she takes a small step forward and lifts her head up high again- best to try and forget such troubles when a whole host of them have popped up!] These stars… I wouldst call it gods blessed; if’t I did not suspect the dark hand of some devil in its making. I must be cautious on this matter- must find reasons for these strange travels.

[She still doesn’t start yelling though; instead she just stands there for a few seconds and then turns in a slow circle- before halting again and looking back down slowly; her face is now fairly calm; fairly blank- most panic hidden if not erased] …Blessed folk of the stars; dost ye hear my speech? Wouldst ye love me still if I expressed my desire to find myself free?

[…Yeah, she’ll just be standing there and waiting for an answer to her questions- feel free to chuck things at her!]

No, thank God. Crashing into Monsignor Bell in the Botanic Gardens was awful enough. If they can't leave me Oxford, I can at least have this place. I wonder what year you might be from. Dorian is only a few decades before me, but some are centuries separate.

I know. [someone who can empathize both with Sebastian's obsession with religion and his desire to run from it. It's a pleasant surprise] I myself am from the summer of 1922, Anno Domini. Mister Dorian Gray is from some time prior to the passing of Queen Victoria, I believe. I met someone whose world was dated by the stars.

I do, or at least as far as I know it. The 1600's would explain a very great deal - your dress, I mean, and the way you speak. It would be such a surprise were I wrong about my year.

Dull, generally. It's England. I love the gardens at Oxford. It's a beautiful place in summer and spring.

Oxford? Yes, it must've done. I wouldn't be able to say how much.

It's not at all like Italy or France or any other places I've been to visit. It's a nice place. The country particularly. I'm very fond of it there.

[he seems a bit amused] Italy, yes. Blessed, I'm not so certain. Papa's place in Italy is more of a palace of sin than a house of sanctity.

I don't know. I suppose. As common as it is for people to deserve them, I imagine.

If a camel can do it, I don't see why much else should have trouble, and they're not very discrete creatures, are they?

[his theology is perfect, okay??]

You know, the story in the Bible about it being easier for a camel to pass through a needle than for the wealthy to get into heaven?

I'm not asking to be a saint. I'd rather not be that holy. The point is, though, that it's possible and we can dwell on it later. Much, much later if I can have my way.

War? I'd rather be out of that one as well. I only just missed the last.
