The Twins. You probably met them already. They and a woman called Meredith Sault are using us in an experiment.

What's 'your' world like?

Ah, well...pretty average, at least considering the people here. Although all of our stars are false.

[Voice takes on a darker tone.] They were replaced with fake stars when the Gates appeared. Ten years ago.

Sounds mysterious.

[Smirking,] A bit of an understatement. The Gate is dangerous.

What's it do?

Anything it wants to. Anything from stone flowers that grow like any other flower to ghosts and illusions.

It's been known to drive people insane and kill those who enter it.

No one's tried to take it out?

There were two Gates at first. Hell's Gate in Tokyo and Heaven's Gate in South America. But something happened to the Heaven's Gate and it disappeared--along with almost the entire continent. Wiped off the face of the Earth.

And people still live in Tokyo?

Hell's Gate hasn't disappeared yet, although...

[Shakes his head.] It's a big city. Many of those people don't have anywhere else to go.

Yeah, yet. Don't know about you, but if I found out my country could disappear with me on it at any second, I'd be willing to move out.

[Smiling a little.] Humans are stubborn.

Guess they never realize how stupid they were once they're dead, so it doesn't really matter.

Why's one Hell's Gate? Kind of ominous there.

Heh.

It's just the names they gave to them. They both might as well be Hell. Everything and everyone who was inside when the Gates appeared were destroyed.

So why not call them 'The Twin Gates of Death'?
