[Kuhn's been seeing more and more people wandering around on the plane with their noses buried in slips of paper and things that look like playing cards from a distance. Frankly... he's starting to feel a little left out.]

Sheesh, did everyone get a card but me? I kind of feel like I got the short end of the stick here...

Probably not. We've already established some similarities and some differences, those will have to do.

I think the main point is that our realities have treated the situation differently. Where you have this "game" as where AIDA appeared and was more or less contained to, AIDA dots appeared as a "protrusion" in my reality. For us, it was an extra-dimensional intruder, and it forced us to catch up to it in terms of dimensional science. That's what the Chosen Ones were. We were somehow able to focus ourselves enough that we could project our subconscious into the dimension that AIDA "lived" in and take the fight to them. At first I was the only one, but as time went on the numbers began to grow until we had seven people. Even still, we were only managing to keep up with the problem.

When we realized that the man known as Masato Indou was the first person to have had contact, we knew that we needed to speak with him. However, he was completely subsumed with an AIDA who would not permit us to get close. We had to sneak up on him in a two-pronged attack just to drive the AIDA down a bit, but then he used what was theorized to be his Avatar's special ability.

The Rebirth was a sacrifice that seems to have driven all of the AIDA from our plane, but at the cost of somehow unstabilizing reality. No one is really sure how it happened, since the ability was never documented. For the time being it seems to have been localized within the country, but it's feared that it will begin to spread beyond our borders soon enough. We don't really have the manpower to do anything if it does, as keeping track of everything here in and of itself is difficult enough.

So... Ovan's go-out-with-a-bang threw a wrench in the whole of reality? ... Wait, so what happened to everyone's Avatars in your world?

It was the last gasp of a desperate, afflicted man. Perhaps he thought it would solve the problem. It did, in a fashion, but is the aftermath any better?

We use them when necessary, if our dimensional exploration runs into trouble.

Maybe the aftermath has an easier fix, it just hasn't been found yet. That's possible, right? I mean, you don't have to go into another dimension to fight anything now...

I see... In my world, our Avatars sort of... went to Haseo. I didn't really get it at the time, but I think... he used our power along with his to deal the final blow.

When rifts open, we investigate them to ensure that there's nothing there that will cause trouble. Often the rifts close on their own, but some of them seem to be more permanent. Unfortunately, the rifts are becoming more common, and are starting to intersect with physical structures, which has rather a rather dangerous affect on the structure in question.

Went to..? How odd. There are theories about being able to merge Avatars based on similar emotional backgrounds, but you can't "transfer" your Avatar. It's a part of your life experience.

... So, like, the top of a skyscraper could end up in an entirely different dimension? You know, that could be pretty interesting.

[He sighs a little and nods.] Eh, what can I say? I miss my Magus sometimes. I mean, maybe I could do it again, but it's not like I've had any need to try.

It destabilizes the entire building. Not only does that piece of it stop existing in our dimension, it... changes something about the chemical composition of the surrounding elements. Reality starts to warp around those points of intersection, which can create problems when a building starts turning into chlorine, for example.

[She shakes her head. This is so weird to think about.] So you being in this form is related to the "game" you were talking about?

... Ew. [He winces at that mental imagery.] I don't suppose there's a way to fix that?

[He nods] Yeah. This is what my character looks like in The World. For some reason, when I come to the Plane, it pulls me like this instead of how I look in reality.

We aren't able to alter the chemical structure of things that easily, so no. In that case, all we could do was evacuate the people and attempt to dilute the fumes while detaching that part of the building to prevent it from spreading. I think in the end they just knocked the building down.

Is your game the only point you connect to this dimension? From what I understand I should be able to connect without using a projection, however this is a far more comfortable means.

[He doesn't respond to that - how would anyone respond to that, really? - and just shakes his head, thinking of what that alone would do to everyone involved. And to think that it's not something that only happened once...]

... Hm? Oh. No, I come to the Plane from offline all the time. I just... still show up as my game character. It's really weird.

It may simply be a mechanism of the dimension. I wonder if it's even possible for an alternate shape to enter here if one has come once in one form...

Perhaps you were strobing through alternative reality versions of yourself. There's no telling how different any alternative reality can be.

Judging from that alternative reality Haseo, I don't think it's safe to limit our perceptions of what alternative realities really can be like.

A possible experiment to try out at some point. This talk of alternate forms made me wonder.
