I'm under the impression that the entire subject of literary studies is about finding deeper meaning wherever you feel like.

Well, it is. Same way for most pieces of art. It's not really about what the creator intended, it's almost entirely about the feelings of those interpreting it. A lot of people saw the end about wrapping up romances, others about leading on futures. I saw it as two bitter enemies reaching peace.
