Oh, great. Wonderful. Fantastic. Bloody geniuses, the lot of you! What was it this time? Come on, tell me. Ring me up! Oh, but no, no radio here, no telly. Will the stars sing out the answer? A heavenly chorus of medical malpractice? What sort of drug did you overdose me on this time?

Well, come on! [hits himself on the head] Where’s the television? I need to see how the rest of this case plays out. I just want to go– [disappears for a moment, before reappearing]

[pouts] They would probably think I was spending too much time with 'not real' things. [turns her glasses off] Maybe this is a really weird dream. Or maybe I fell asleep with my glasses on and all these people are chatting to me... [tips her head to look at him] Because this is impossible, right?

Seems to be, yeah. Don't know if they overdosed me, or I'm really mad, or... or this is real. [glances at her] Why don't you tell me about your glasses?

You really shouldn't be on drugs, boss. Our teacher gives us a lecture about them before summer break. And about stalkers and stuff. [holds her hands up] My glasses are my computer. They have a wireless signal and any monitors and stuff are displayed virtually. And virtual sounds are heard through the little earpieces. So. It has an overlaying virtual reality.

I'm not on drugs. [pauses] What year is it, Fumie?

You worry about them a lot, then. Mm... [props herself up on her elbows] This year? 2026.

It's... complicated. [raises his eyebrows] 2026?

Complicated? And un! [nods] I'm pretty sure it is. I was more sure this morning. And that probably counts more than my current sureness. ...And I could check the date on my wristband. [lifts up her wrist and glances at the small screen] Yep, 2026.

Well, uhm... [let's not make the nice girl think we're crazy] 2026. Not a bad year, eh?

[looks at him for a moment] Mm, I guess it's all right. What year are you from?

2006. --And, uhm, 1973, too.

Both? How are you from both?

Well, I got hit by a car in 2006, and woke up in 1973.

Oh. That doesn't really make sense. Most people would just be really hurt.

I think I'm in a coma. It makes the most sense. But...

A coma?? That's...sorry. But...ah! Is that why you talk about drugs? You mean medicine? But what?

Yeah. Whenever my doctors b- [selects a politer word] mess up my medication, my world acts oddly. And it's just that, sometimes... it's really detailed, for something that isn't real.

Hmm. Maybe it's... [thinks and counts quietly] Ah but I don't think so. Glasses were invented about...2015. But maybe they were in development long enough ago that they could have tested them on you? Glasses have medical purposes, too. Supposedly they can heal your mind in a virtual world. That's just a rumour though.

Well, could be. Seems unlikely, but... Though, the - [let's not bring up the test card girl, 'cause Sam doesn't want to seem even more insane]

[tilts her head] What is it?

It's, uhm... [rubs his cheek]

Are you all right?

Don't worry about it.

[pokes him] Cheer up, ne?

[blinks, but then smiles] All right, Fumie.

[smiles brightly] Good, Sam.
