[nursing a black eye and sniffling, muttering under her breath before trying to pretend her eye isn't bothering her]

Sam? Anyone around? N-not that it's really important. Just... [trails off and shakes her head before wandering around searching]

Guns. Great. [Yuri does not like to think of another little girl getting shot to death.] If they start going for their guns, just get undercover as fast as you can. [Yuri suddenly gets and idea. He rummages around in his pouch again, then pulls out a small flat stone disk the size of his palm. It has a bunch of strange symbols cover it. He tosses it to Fumie] Take that in case things get worse.

[surprised but catches it] Really? It's okay to have? [looks at it] What is it?

You can have it. I can't use it anyway.

That's a Solomon's Crest. It lets you use a couple spells. That one has a Barrier spell in it and an attack spell called Bright Crime. The Barrier spell is a weak one but it's better than nothing.

I don't think the attack spell will kill those thugs but it should knock them out for a while. If you're lucky you might be able to catch all of them in the spell area, just remember that you have to have a line of sight to whoever you're using it on.

[blinks, looking it over] It's magic...? Ne, your world has magic, Yuri?

[Surprised] Yeah. Yours doesn't? [This possibility hadn't occurred to him]

Mm, not that I know of. But maybe I've never seen it.

Maybe, but magic's hard to miss.. [Suddenly realizes something and points at the Crest in Fumies hand] Just be careful with that thing using magic drains your energy. Over do it and you'll exhaust yourself.

[nods] Okay! I can remember that. Ah, your world is okay right now, right?

Yeah, it's fine. [Well, as fine as it can be with being threatened by a guy who wants to destroy it, but Yuri's doesn't want to mention that] You got caught up in the world switching thing, right? That have something to do with the smugglers?

Hm, I don't think so. The smugglers are from a bet Gene and I have going. But the switch was definitely the work of the people who run this place. One time they released monsters.

Monsters? [Yuri sighs] Of course, there always has to be monsters somewhere.

A bet that involves you taking down smugglers? You must have something pretty important at stake.

Ne, you fight monsters, too?

[nods] Sam. He's my friend here and Gene gets mad at us for hanging out.

Yeah, I fight monsters. You can make good money doing it.

Why would this Gene guy be annoyed with you guys hanging out?

Ah, really? That's an interesting business. It must be dangerous though.

I don't know. It seems really silly. Sam and Gene are still friends, after all.

Fighting monsters is dangerous, but I happen to be very good at it.

Some people are just weird like that.

Ah, I'm glad for that. Do you have friends that help you?

Gene is very weird.

Yeah, I have friends that help me out if I need it. A few of them are really weird themselves.

Ah, really? That's good though. It's much harder to work alone sometimes on big cases.

Yeah, having more people helping can be a good thing, sometimes. Tt's easier to take on some of the bigger monsters if you attack in a team. You just have to be careful that your attacks are coordinated, otherwise you end up getting in each others way.

Ahh, you sound so experienced about it.

I've been fighting monsters for a long, long time. And I've had people mess up combination attacks before. Joachim gets...overly enthusiastic when he's in justice mode and forgets the plan.

Ah, he sounds like Daichi. Daichi gets too excited about things and doesn't think them through properly.

Bet Daichi doesn't go around calling himself a 'Great Hero of Justice'.

Don't give him any ideas. He already thinks highly enough of himself.

I won't mention it to him then. One Hero of Justice is more than enough.
