[Takeru appears on the plane, with a rather comfy chair. He's curled up on it, with some textbooks and workbooks and a little lap desk.]

Mmm... [He flips through one of the textbooks and rubs his forehead. He's kind of muttering to himself.]

Why is this language so difficult? It's insane...

[He closes the textbook and leans back in the chair.]

[For those interested, thanks to Plane magic/meddling/etc., the title can be clearly read as 'English for Secondary School Students'. Or something along those lines.]

At least I can take a break here. Time differences aren't so bad, sometimes. More hours in the day to get stuff done...

[earnest nod] Precisely. [gestures at the Plane] This place should help with some of that, at least. You might even find better teachers.

Hopefully. It would be interesting to see how many things translate over, too. I don't even know if like... say... gravity works the same way in different universes.

[slight nod] Some of the physics are certainly different; I've been wondering how that would affect merged realities.

I've heard about this 'merging' thing... I'm not sure I understand it completely.

[pensive nod] I believe we're conduits, of sorts, to our own realities; it is our presence that represents them, that enables their laws to work on the Plane. As we grow closer to other people, those paths begin to intertwine. The walls do not break, as such, simply combine to form another. Which, of course, is why separating those walls takes effort.

... I'd imagine it would be. Lines between worlds or realities are kind of tough to manipulate.

Are you speaking from experience?

A little bit. The only way to get to the Digital World is by opening a portal, or going through a rift that opens up. And it's very difficult to get back to the real world unless you know where a gate is.

[thoughtful nod] How does one open a portal? Is that how you found that world?

With this. And, well... the first time I ended up there was during summer camp. It started snowing, these strange devices fell out of a portal in the sky into our hands, and we were pulled into the portal.

... Well, actually, they were earlier versions of these devices.

[his eyes alight with interest as he peers at the little device] Fascinating. How do they work, precisely? Why did they fall to you?

[he raises his eyes, looking faintly sheepish] I'm an inquisitive sort, you may have noticed...

I'm not entirely sure how they work, and I'm hesitant to cut it open and try to figure it out. But they fell to us because we were the current batch of Chosen Children. Every so often problems pop up in the Digital World, so the Chosen Children have to go and make things right again.

And it's fine.

[chuckle] I can see why. [faint smile] And I can see why you, at least, were chosen.
