01. And now for something completely different

[The Doctor is smiling happily and humming a Beatles song to himself.] Ah, The Beatles. Earth has produced quite the preeminent collection of musicians, though few compare to The Beatles. Oh, but I can't forget Miles Davis and John Coltrane, now, can I? Different favorites for different genres. I couldn't very well compare a rock 'n' roll band to jazz luminaries, it's hardly an even playing field. So to speak.

[Glancing at the food and drink he's precariously balancing in his hands, the Doctor ponders what he's currently holding.] I don't have the affinity for bacon sandwiches that Ace does, but chips are rather nice on occasion, and I must say, I do enjoy these chocolate malts. Far more delicious than carrot juice.

[At last, he realizes he's not on a street, or anywhere near Harry's Café, the place he only just left. It's hard to determine when exactly the scenery changed, but this is most certainly not where he's supposed to be. It's different, and he supposes it should be disconcerting, but with no sign of an immediate threat, he allows himself a moment to appreciate the view.] Well, this is peculiar.

[oh goody, a game. and she smirks]

Which would you prefer?

[identity profile] shatteredqueen.livejournal.com 2009-03-23 09:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Mmm, then perhaps I should say both and leave it at that. [gives him another appraising look] If you can't figure out the reasoning yourself, I see no reason to indulge you in an answer.

There are those opinions which do not bear airing.

And if you must, your dress is appalling, but you're peculiar even without it. Most of those who come here are.

If they ought not be heard, they ought not be spoken. Why waste the breath? Unless you're hoping to die, in which case... [waves a dismissive hand]

Nothing makes me peculiar, which I suppose is peculiar in itself.

Mmm, perhaps.

I have the unfortunate luck to be acquainted with the Doctor, and few are as peculiar as that man.

That depends entirely on how those supposed traits are being used, doesn't it? He's nosy, disruptive, self-righteous and terribly egotistical. He's also a horrible dresser and in desperate need of a haircut. [sniffs] He hardly compares to my husband.

[identity profile] shatteredqueen.livejournal.com 2009-03-24 07:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Not all consider curiosity a positive trait. He'd do best to stay out of the affairs of his betters.

[and she smiles]

Harold Saxon, of course, though most here call him the Master. I understand he's called that universally, in fact, or so he tells me.

[and that earns him a dirty look] And why, exactly, wouldn't someone? He's charming, intelligent, powerful. He's a great man and capable of giving those things I desire. [laughs derisively] The Doctor thought to 'save' me from him, but it's difficult to save someone who isn't in need of help, wouldn't you agree?

[identity profile] shatteredqueen.livejournal.com 2009-03-24 09:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I know he is. That's the best part. [wistfully] There's very little quite so beautiful as watching him subjugate those beneath him. And he's so terribly accommodating, as well, always making time for me to help. I do so love hearing them scream, after all.

[she's ignoring your insistence, there] Lucy. My name is Lucy. And if you've known him so long, I can only assume you're yet another Doctor I'll have to listen to prattle on about the right and wrong of the universe.

It wasn't difficult, the way you went on about yourself. I see that doesn't change, regardless of your face.

[her expression is dark and smug at first, though it falls, replaced by a hard anger] Harry doesn't think me a toy. I'm not like the rest of the drivel you seem to care for. Have you any idea how tiresome it is, repeating this to every one of you? Can none of you believe it possible that one of your precious pet race might find what your best enemy offers better than anything you could give?

[identity profile] shatteredqueen.livejournal.com 2009-03-25 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
A pity, then, that it isn't.

[and she's back to smiling] Mmm, it's quite charming, really, to have someone look at you, to fear and respect you. Better still to watch the life bleed out of them as they beg for it back.

[identity profile] shatteredqueen.livejournal.com 2009-03-25 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
He gave me the opportunity to act on it. [tucks a strand of hair behind her ear] He saw that we were alike and gave me leave to do as I pleased.
