Artifact 02: Stone Eye

[ Angela has brought another object to the Plane this week, this time a rock of a curiously round shape. She holds it out, above her head, then down, shakes it, sets it on her head... Then she makes a face and sits on the floor of the Plane, rolling the rock back and forth.

And suddenly it blinks at her. And she realizes she is rolling around a huge stone eye.

The resulting shriek can probably rupture eardrums from a mile away. ]

Ew! Ew! Ew! Get it away get it away! [ She's reaching out to kick the thing, but then realizes she'd have to touch it with her foot and the idea disgusts her too much to actually go through with it. ]

[Picks it up and just blinks at it. Presumably, the eye blinks back]

No! No, Goddess no. [ She flinches as the eye blinks at Mu, then rolls itself around in his hands. ] It's an artifact I-I-I think. I thought it was a Jumi core at first. [ Grumble grumble ] Wish it had been, even if hey're bad luck...

[Pats the top of it] Well it doesn't seem at all dangerous.

You don't know that! It could be really dangerous-- I mean, there's a gorgon living in the lake near where we found it. It could be really dangerous!

[ At that moment, the eye turns itself to look at Angela, and in his mind's eye, it's likely Mu is seeing a blonde man, around the same age, dressed in a long red cloak. He shakes his head.

"No, princess, the gorgon is long dead. The war killed it, along with every other ancient monster around here. Stop being so foolish, we need to check the lake bed--" ]

It's looking at me agaaaaaain. [ Her whining interrupts the scene, she doesn't seem to have heard or seen anything. ]

Angela, be silent a moment.

[He turns his attention to the rock] Forgive the interruption. Tell me your message.

What? Why are you talking to it?

[ "-- if we want to find what the source of that power is. Come along."

"But Koren!" Off screen, Angela is pouting much the same way she is on the Plane. "It could still be in the lake, just because no one's seen it..."

The man rolls his eyes before turning and walking off between two trees. Angela scrambles to follow. "Hey! Don't leave me here!" ]

Because I am seeing something you're not. I see a young man, blond and in a red cloak. He seems to be speaking to you.

I-- What? You can see Koren? What's he saying?

That the Gorgon is long dead.

[ She's on her feet then, glaring at the eyeball. ]

It's...! It's snitching on me!

It blinked! [And she bursts into giggling.]

It's horrible! Ew! [ She scoots farther away from it. ]

[She runs over and peers down at it.] Ooooh, it's staring at me!

[ And it does stare. And blinks. Clack clack. ]

C-careful! I don't know what it does!

Heee! [She giggles and starts hopping around it, watching the eye blink and turn.]

[ Angela watches her and the eye, the bottom of her stomach still dropped. She really should work up the courage to get the eye away from the girl, but there's something about disembodied eyeballs that roots her to the spot. ]

[Pino finally scoops it up once she's pretty sure it's safe.] Can Pino keep it?

Ah, I do not think it really means any harm, though. [Ammy goes over and paws at it gently.]

[ The eye rolls, spins itself around, and blinks a few times at Ammy. Clack clack. ]

It's gross, though!

I don't care if it can help it or not. It's like one of those monsters, it's just... ew, ew, how could someone have made this?!

There is a certain amount of power in it. [She sniffs the eyeball, then looks over at Angela.] And you do not know what it is?

[Covering his ears,] Jeez, you're louder than Maka.

[Notices the eyeball.] What...the hell was that?

[Soul wanders over and picks up the stone eyeball which, assuming it's still blinking, turns to focus on him.]

...Okay, that's definitely weird. And you don't even know what it is?

[ The eye looks at him and blinks a few times. It makes a clacking sound each time it does so. ]

It's... it's an artifact, but I'm not sure what it was before someone enchanted it. I don't think I want to know. I was trying to figure out what it does before it went all... gross on me.

[He turns it over a few times, inspecting it.] It's like some kind of demon tool. Or enchantment. Sure you're not bringing something dangerous here?

I have no idea what a demon tool is, but in my world we call those things artifacts. It was... something before, then an artifact mage enchanted it. Now it has powers, but I don't know what they are.

They're benign, though! ... Most the time.

[He starts tossing the eye up and down like a ball.] Man...your world has really weird rules about magic and such.

[ She watches the eye nervously. ]

They're not strange. It's just how magic works. You have the elemental spirits and you can borrow their power. If you have an Eye of Flame, you can borrow even more.

"Borrow?" I'd think "steal" would be closer to the truth, considering. [He shrugs, still tossing the eye up and down.] Ah, what do I know. Guess I've gotta accept that witches are different all over.

[Angela shriek makes Dino comes running] Angela! What is it, what's the matter?

It's looking at me that horrible eye thing is looking at me so gross ew ew eeeeeew! [ She will be shrinking back away from the eye, which blinks at her again. Clack. She turns paler as she looks at it. ]

An...eye? [Will lean down to look at the eye himself. It doesn't look that bad. ]

[ The eye swivels around and blinks at him, then swivels back to look at Angela. She crawls back a bit. ] I don't care if it's an artifact, it's gross!
