017 - Feet to the Sky

[Since the labyrinth was such a well received addiction to the Plane Reinette has returned -- with a new escort of sorts. A strong, sturdy tree, though that is only part of the story. Attached to it is a wide, carved wooden swing. There is a rope attached to it as well, designed to prevent the user from swinging too high. Though that hangs rather uselessly to the side. Reinette is in the swing, gently pushing it back and forth with a single satin shoe as she looks up at the stars]

[he watches her with ever-curious eyes]

Gallifrey's, of course. Or what the old and unimaginative order thought was Gallifrey's need.

[she is accustomed to being watched]

And you thought - think -- otherwise.

I didn't leave the planet on a whim.

But Gallifrey is gone. What do you rebel against now?

The stars, Reinette. Only the stars.

[she looks up at those stars, as if to discern their opinion on the matter]

And the Doctor, but that's more a battle of wills than a rebellion. We're united in our rebellion, in fact.

[she tilts a glance his way, and wonders if she remains quiet if he will continue to fill the space]

[glances sideways at her]

It's all mathematics.

[she turns fully towards him. She counts him more intriguing than the stars in any case]

Everything? Even myself?

The only truth is in mathematics, and truth is beauty.

So if I am truthful, I must be mathematical. If I am to be beautiful, I must be one of your equations.

If the premises are true.

[she laughs again]

You would lie to me, then?

Would you catch it?

[an eyebrow arch]

Do you believe me to be naive?

I believe I expect you to never let me know if you are.

Is it not more a matter of perception? Rather than what I am, or am not?

Well I suppose so. Let's put it this way: if you disappoint me regarding trusting me too much, I will be quite put out.

Put out? We would never want that.

And as for trusting you? I would not worry on that count.

Good! So, the premise that beauty is truth and truth, beauty, or whichever way it was, added to the premise that the only truth is in mathematics, would argue that one must be mathematics to be beautiful, and to be true. But if it all mathematics, it's all beautiful and true.

[she is musing now]

How many occasions you have found to visit Greece.

Not too often, but I can think of a two-word Latin phrase for the topic change you just made.
