This entire place is an experiment that they are running, and we are the test subjects. Occasionally they develop personalized experiments for individual people, but these experiments are quite varied.

You can come and go from here as you please, however, and all it takes is a simple thought. Time also does not pass in your own world while you are here, and many people take advantage of that fact. For the most part, this place is peaceful and the people are quite lovely, so there is little to fear.
